Did any of you ride before the enactment of helmet laws ? And if so , how many of you still wore helmets?
Enquiring minds want to know .

Both in the UK and SA, the helmet laws have always been here. I did wear an open face when rode trials, but that was all in the dirt.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

Also, lack of protection in the chin area can result in a broken jaw bone being shoved back and severing the spinal cord.

To me a helmet isn't a fashion item or an optional accessory. Get the best protection you can afford.

Most full faces helmets are ventilated, as long you are moving things are OK. In slow traffic I crack open the visor, even at speed I often leave the visor open 1/2 an inch or so.
There is no such thing as a bad motorcycle.

I drove dirt track stock cars. The guy who taught me the ropes and sold me parts used to say, "If you have a ten dollar head, buy a ten dollar helmet"

I agree buy the best you can aford.

1/2 Helmets

#16 Unread post by the deacon »

If I have to wear a helmet (I would prefer not to) I'd just as soon it be 1/2 of a helmet. I've been riding since I was 14 and I'm 61 now. Never liked helmets, but MI doesn't give a choice, yet.

It's not what I think about half helmets so much as it is what I think about my jaw. I guess you could say "I'm attached to it"

You only get one head right? Why not do everything you can to keep it in working condition?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I've never lived in a state where helmets were mandatory. I've been sporting a brain bucket since I started riding. On rare occasions I may take a short ride without one, just for fun.
