I recommend washing with dish detergent and water and still taking it easy for the first 100 miles .

I'd like to add some information to this thread I wasn't aware of when I made my post in it. The tires I was running on my bikes were Metzelers. This tire manufacturer states they do not use any kind of mold-release (MR) compound. So my method might not work out the best with tires that do use an MR compound (every other manufacturer but Metzeler/Pirelli).

I actually ended up putting a set of Metzlers on my bike, although at the time I didn't know anything about their claims about not using mold-release.
Anyway, I didn't do any washing or sandpapering, I simply got on and rode. I was fairly conscious of the new tires at first and went pretty easy on them, but after not having any issues I simply started riding as normal after a couple of days and they've been great.

I ride figure 8s' in an empty parking lot until I'm dizzy(or about 45 minutes). Then the tires are scrubbed. Its boring but it works.

Why do you guys spend $200 for a Metzeler when a $80 tire works just as good? The $80 Pirelli MT66 will perform as good as the Metzeler ME880, smooth, comfortable ride, excellent wet traction and handling.

The only problem will be the several thousand dollars he will have to spend on buying a cruiser so he can fit the $80 tyres to it.
But hey, he saved $120 on the tyres so it can't be all bad.

they wear the same, ur going to have to replace a $200 tire the same time you need to replace a $80 tire

No, see, he's asking about SPORTBIKE tires. But you suggested one that will fit and is designed for a cruiser.

Which is sort of like throwing an outboard motor on a plane and expecting the propeller to make it go.

My Metzlers cost me $115 apiece and you'd be hard pressed to find better a better tire for the price. I'm happy enough with the deal to not be second guessing it now.
