If I'm home (this is pre-GPS) I'll print out the directions on my computer, then take a highlighter and swipe every other direction line with color. I use BOLD for "right/left" and the street name, so I can pick it out easily while at stops.

I've done poker runs with my club and I always take along 2-3 highlighters to mark the printed ride sheet with color. Then I stick the sheet in the map pocket of my tank bag.

I havent figured out that newfangled GPS yet. I have a compass on my bike (away from the metal, eh?) and just pick a road that is in the general direction I have in mind and figure I'll run into a road that will get me to somewhere I know. That only works when I'm not in a hurry and not in the city. Great way to learn new roads so long as you dont keep using the same routes.

In the city I usually memorize the directions but keep a printout in my jacket in case I miss a turn. I dont have a tank bag; I hear they're nice.

Input an address, postal code zip code and let 'er fly... Does direction etc and if you're willing to buy the upgraded version, it supports GPS...

Umm, the original post was about how to make the printed directions readily accessible while riding. Not about how to find directions.

Garmin is definitely the way to go with GPS - We have the 60cs - a handheld - because we probably use it more on foot than in the car or on the bike. Magellan makes nice units, but I believe thay haven't figured out autorouting as well as the Garmin software has. If you haven't had a GPS before you're in for a fun surprise - you can get as lost as you want and easily find your way home. And if you find a cool place you want to remember - just push a button and you'll always know how to find it again. I've been completely surprised at the tiny little roads my gps knows about. I haven't found one yet that would stump it.

Looks similar to me...

Added a step for easier readibility... the highlighter action.

ebay has garmin i5 for as low as $399, the MSRP is $535.70.

is it a great deal $399? or can i find it cheaper somewhere else?

im really considering this... this will be very useful to me since i get lost a lot.

Anything under $400 is a great deal on that unit. What you have to remember about pricing gps units is that you quite frequently have to buy a $100 map package to go with them. This unit (and the garmin quest2 among others) comes with the maps already there.
