Hit 110 mph indicated on a GS500 with a Plexi 2 fairing and 240# me onboard, that's probably about 10% higher than the actual mph would be.

My litttle 400 tops out at 105mph, redlined in 5th. She's a wee bit scary at that speed. Only did it for a few seconds on open highway to see how fast it'd go and will not do it again!

so speedometers on bikes aren't 100% accurate and will display higher speed than what you're actually doing?

I've had it to 85 and that's it. Actually it felt pretty stable at that speed, not much different than 75. Supposedly the Suzuki M50 can get up to about 105, but some say that a typical maximum speed is about 95.

it will damage the engine in such a slight way its barely undamaged. Red-lining is never good no matter how short a time or how infrequently you hit it

No I didn't damage the engine.
When I said redline, I didn't mean I brought it into the red. That is not good. I just brought it up to the redline, which is 10,000 rpm on my bike.
You don't want to cruise along with the rpm's that high, but for a short time it's no problem.
My bike builds power right up to the redline, so I often shift from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th at the redline.

Speedos are all off on bikes. Some worse than others. 10% high is probably a good average figure. Road tests frequently measure this and record. For example from MCN tests:

Speed @ 65 mph indicated:
04 GS500 58.5
04 EX500 59.8
02 GSXR1000 60.3

Also from MCN 02 GSXR!000- measured top speed 173.2 mph, better not redline your Gixxer yet.

Occasional and brief redlinning should not do harm to engine but it's not a good idea or neccesary. For example my GS500 hits max HP at 8500 and max torque at 7000 while the redline is 11k. I can run fastest in the twisties by keeping it cooking between 7-9k rpm, upshifting at 9k just past HP peak and dropping to max torque at 7k in next gear.

I hit 150mph on my 88 Ninja 750 back in the day.

I've only gone 110-120mph on my V-Max.

my ninja only goes up to around 140 mph though i've on taken it to 120.

'93 CB750 - 128mph by the GPS / 135 mph on the speedo. To get that I had to have the windshield off and was lying on the tank.

Back in the olden days I got a Kaw 750 turbo up to 130 mph on a long straightaway at the track. Thank God they put good brakes on those things.
