Careful now; I'm sure I'm not alone in my experience of thinking I'd be happy long term with my first bike, but was wanting more top end and torque after a couple of years.
If you're going sport; I have no idea.
If it's cruiser, yep, the C50 is comfy for a bigger dude, as are the V-stars. Both are around the same reasonable price range. A couple thousand up are the Honda Shadow Sabres. If you wanted, you could hunt down a used Mean streak. All of those felt to me like they could accomodate a larger rider.
But, at 310 lbs or so, I would'nt go for a 600 or anything around that. I'd go for at least a 750 for a sport, likely 1100 or greater. If you go cruiser, I'd make forward foot controls my first investment. It's amazing how much of a difference they make after riding for a couple hours.
