Careful now; I'm sure I'm not alone in my experience of thinking I'd be happy long term with my first bike, but was wanting more top end and torque after a couple of years.

If you're going sport; I have no idea.

If it's cruiser, yep, the C50 is comfy for a bigger dude, as are the V-stars. Both are around the same reasonable price range. A couple thousand up are the Honda Shadow Sabres. If you wanted, you could hunt down a used Mean streak. All of those felt to me like they could accomodate a larger rider.

But, at 310 lbs or so, I would'nt go for a 600 or anything around that. I'd go for at least a 750 for a sport, likely 1100 or greater. If you go cruiser, I'd make forward foot controls my first investment. It's amazing how much of a difference they make after riding for a couple hours.

The C50 should fit you okay if you immediately replace the stock seat. I'm just under 5'11" tall and 210lbs and find the seat extremely uncomfortable. However, this is typical of most stock seats.

Other bikes to consider are the Vulcan 900 Classic, V-Star 1100, and Vulcan 1500 Classic, all for under $10k.

Harleys appear to be big, but my bother-in-law has an '05 Electra Glide (one of their biggest bikes, if not the biggest) and I find it cramped compared to my Kawasaki. I sit too close to the bars and the seat affords no movement whatsoever. In contrast, the Kawasaki 1600 Classic, Vulcan 2000, and Suzuki C90 felt like recliners with plenty of room to get comfortable and stay that way.

So, if you're shopping for a brand I can't really help you. But, if you're shopping for a bike you should have no problem finding one that fits just right.

Im a big fat dude and my wimpy little 14 year old 600 kat has plenty of get up and go. PLENTY. read fat dude as 6'0 and 300.

i dont think you need anything above a 600 if you go sport. however you might wanna start wearing shoes on your knees for the pegs...

I do wanna say though, Go forth and Sit upon these bikes. Ignore the salesmen and find a frame thats comfy for you. If the thought, i can put up with this enters your mind, move over and try something else. If you sit down and think...ohhhh baby yea,... thats the spot mmmmm. then you're gettin close.
