Definately give either the ninja 650 or SV650 a good look.

Either of these will be much easier for you to learn on than a 600 sportbike, even the F4i

A used ninja 500 or SV650 would be a good way to start if you want a sportbike. they will be cheaper to buy and insure and easier to ride. Do a year or so on one of those then get your 600.

you will find that even the 500 will have a lot more power than people think. And the SV650 or ninja 650 are both fast enough that you may never get bored with those

if you absolutly *HAVE* to get a fully faired 4 popper, go for a katana 600.

Starting out on a RR is like starting out on a tweaked out KX250, not a smart choice. Would you give a KX250 to a new dirt rider? No, you'd give him a nice 250 4 stroke enduro (KX250F doesn't count). And if s/he HAD to have more power, an XR400R would work (the katana part of the analogy). There's a whole new skillset required on the road from the dirt.
