Only protective gear I wear are boots. I ride a cruiser, but with those crotch rockets it's probably best to dress up.

Don't want to seem like a wet blanket but at 25mph on a cruiser without gear a work colleague's son lost his knees and a lot of skin. It's not the bike, or the speed, it's the circumstance.

Personally, I prefer to sweat, but then, this is the UK, so 'hot' is a relative thing.

I have been wearing a Joe rocket mesh jacket and pants all the time since June of last year. Ride everyday at the very least to and from work, even when its scorching outside it feels great when your moving. Sucks a bit when you pull up to a stoplight for a few minutes but its not that bad.

Worse day I can remember was when I was out riding in Pennsylvania in August. I pulled up to a red light and as I was sitting there I look up and see the temperature displayed on a bank sign. 105 degrees. There I am sitting in 105 degree weather on a very hot bike with the sun baking down. Was not a fun ride. Then the "T" storms arrived.

I went down at ~30mph wearing an armoured mesh jacket and normal jeans. The jacket did a great job. The mesh on it tears away immediately, but the pads are placed such that you end up sliding on the pads, not the mesh. So it worked fine for me. The jeans on the other hand... well I might as well have been wearing shorts.

I say go with a mesh jacket on the hot days - it will keep you very cool when you're moving.

Never saw a mesh jacket. Where can you get one of those?

Yep thats about right. I can't say it ever very hot here, but summer days get up to around 30C or about 86 F. Plus sun glare off cars. Personally I have no problems with overheating if I keep on the go, and thats sort of the point isn't it Can never understand how people wear just a t-shirt on a bike driving on the highway, stupidity if you ask me.
