All licenses in Canada are now issued by a central agency in Ottawa (I think). Basically when you get to get your license, they take the picture and all the info then send it off 2-4 weeks later your license shows up in the mail. Until then you get a little paper slip that expires after 3 weeks.
This is all good until you realize that your license shows up in the mail.... and it could take up to 4 weeks to realize it's been stolen out of there. Plus the little slip of paper doesn't act as ID, just proof that you're allowed to drive, so if you're my age no more buying booze or going to the bar. Not that I do it a lot... but you know it's nice to have the option.
I think it would be a lot better if you had to go to the police station to get your license, and they do a quick record check every time you get it renewed. Getting caught with an out of date license, or something else would be VERY BAD, and all kinds of other stuff.
Of course that relys upon cops to be honest too.

it is very nice just too damn expensive, and to many crazy cagers
tow your bike into the US, find some non snowy roads and ride out here man
