I'm an advocate for safety but I don't regard going 90 on a virtually empty freeway that unsafe - go ahead - call me squidly now.

i did notice that i have put "and" instead of "or." i meant "or" when i wrote that.

I think you guys should lighten up a little, its hes kneck thats on the line and it seems to me hes being careful, and 90Mph isnt excessive on a Gixer 1000, just remember till you get some experiance leave enough braking distance allways check your mirrors and stay safe Mate.

It was great - I read this post when it was fresh with no replies. I thought of saying something, and then I thought - nah, this is the kind of post that lives its own life. I agree about the point that everyone likes to run fast from time to time. I think most of us are just concerned to see a new guy on a very fast bike taking big risks so early. Just be careful. We don't want to read about you on Yahoo news.

VermilionX, do you ride with anyone. Anyone sensible, its good way to learn some skills, Im not talking about group riding but some one, on a one on one basis, who could show you how to take a line and stick with it, etc, just a IDEA, hell if no one shows you how you gonna learn, right,
just a thought anyhow.

yeah, i was also wrong not to point out on my 1st post that i only went 90mph for a brief moment.
so i could understand if some people thought i was riding 90 all the way.

after i get some more miles on me... i'll be attending a track school. at least, that's my plan.
hope it works out for me... at the track school, i'll learn all about lines and cornering fast.

I've gone a little faster then that before, but I had bout 10000 km under my belt by then. I expect you to be careful Verm, remember you're at the point that's most dangerous now. Big bike, new rider. Get some more miles under you before you start experimenting with speeds higher then that.

I ride that fast quite often. A few weeks ago I had a hubcap rolling at me from two lanes over. S***t happens very fast at 90. My point to VX was that maybe his skills have not yet been honed to the point that he can safely react to things that happen at 90mph.
It was just a bit of advice from a former noob who'd been there, done that, and paid the price (1 new bike and some ER bills). It's his to take or leave.
BTW - I'm sure it can happen, but I've never seen a "virtually empty" freeway in LA.

both the 405 and the 101 are horrible...you get stuck in cracks, potholes from time to time.....
the streets are horrible as well, the street i most ride on is is ventura blvd....try taking it from winnetka to van nuys....SO MANY holes and cracks in the ground.
LA ROADS SUCK!
