I think they are only protecting themselves because some douche bag would probably sue the company because the jacket didn't protect them, so Icon is just saying don't blame them if the jacket for some reason doesn't protect the rider.

I've also found a very similar disclaimer on A* apparel...albeit, it's not sewn into the garment but on the removable tag. it's written in pretty clear english too...A* makes no claim, express or implied that this product is fit for ANY purpose... yadda yadda yadda......whoa! lol

Well thats nice...they make a jacket, market it to motorcyclists as a motorcycle jacket for crash protection, and then on the inside pocket write that they tell us the jacket is worthless in all situations.
What if the jacket fails and you become seriously injured due to a defect, like improper stitching at the factory? The jacket makers come back and say "you're not supposed to wear our motorcycle jacket on a motorcycle!"
What ever happened to accountability for reliably productivity?

Yup. That "disclaimer" is there to scare people off from suing. But you can *always* find a lawyer who will fight the disclaimers.

Again, I think it's important to note that the manufacturer didn't disclaim all liability; just any arising from not meeting the European specs. Oh, I checked my Icon Strongarm jacket and it has no such disclaimer, though I guess it could have been on a tag I threw away. I usually read that stuff before I toss it though and I don't recall that.

Could be...but the tag in question is actually sewn onto the lining of my Motorhead jacket itself...not the liner...but the lining. If your jacket has a removable liner, check under it. Again...probably much ado about nothing.

I checked both on the Strongarm jacket and no such tag.

Dude, don't worry about it.
I wear a jeans and a sheepskin leather jacket when I ride.
It's jack-"poo poo" for protection, but the only thing the padded stuff will save you from is road rash.
The stuff that kills you, broken necks, head trauma, etc, almost unavoidable.
Wear your helmet tight and ride smart (no stunting or reckless BS) and you'll be fine.
