and will be governed by both the US and Canada
Hmmm. You realize, of course, that
both nations will expect their accustomed tax intake? Perhaps you should consider becoming a separate nation, like the Conch Republic (Key West). You could be the North American version of Switzerland. The neutral peacekeeper--
and banker--between two fractious superpowers.

That might work. We are one of the only states to currently have a surplus. 1.8B in the bank at the state house.

I feel compelled to contribute a story here.
Let me point out that I work for the U.S. Department of Defense. In the mid 90s when lots of people were just learning about the Internet, I was giving a talk on it and making the point that it had both an upside and a downside. I pointed out that there was potential confusion because if you did a Yahoo search on my name (this was pre-Google), you got some hits on me, but you also got ones for a gay Canadian popcorn star. Without missing a beat I said, "Now it's not that I'm worried about being mistaken for gay or a popcorn star, but CANADIAN????"
Weird thing was I did not plan that in advance--it just came out of my mouth and I was as surprised as anyone.

I just noticed that when I made my post above, the system substituted the word "popcorn" for the "adult" film industry, so readers will have to make the correction mentally.

Good luck with Alabama and Texas, I'm pretty sure those two states have more weapons privately owned than the entire US military. When I tried to sell my Maruader in TX, i got no less than 10 trade offers for various rifles and shotguns. They're so prevalent here, they're a form of currency!

Unrelated, but I was amazed when I looked at a list of states with the most licensed motorcyclists and saw that Alabama was like third or fourth. Then when I researched it I found out that until sometime in the 80s they gave an M endorsement to everyone who got a driver's license, and they remain (I think) the only state today that does not require any sort of riding test for an M endorsement. I know my state does not accept an Alabama M endorsement.

Ya, there are a lot of really really bad riders here. Like a lot. Not as bad as texas though. At least we have helmet laws. (They do in texas too, but they're loose enough that many do not wear one)
