So, I managed 50 or so miles on the bike today. These were for the most part 50 hard local street miles.
I did We R One's Poker Run
For some reason I ended up riding like a real noob. Riding in unknown circumstances can do that, I suppose.
Overall it was very enjoyable. I actually followed my wife through the route. I had a natural 3 of a kind 4's for my hand, but that was easily beaten. I could have purchased additional tries for $5 a piece, but I wasn't really there to win - I was there for the experience.
So, we had the whole horde (full compliment of kids) with us (well with my wife in the minivan) - they did pretty good in the car. There was a nice presentation of a flag and flag folding. Not really my thing, but the former mayor of Carteret's speech was nice.
He talked about how when he was in WWII, he was out in Africa he was walking from one place to another when a British soldier rode on a bike and offered him a ride. The distance was 40 or so miles that apparently, scared him forever! He was a funny old guy.
The BBQ food was really good. I didn't do any damage to my bike, any one else's bike or any cars, so I guess it was a good day. I saw some streets in NJ not far from my house that I've never been to before.
There were a lot of nice bikers out there - everyone was a cruiser biker type - and me with my day glo jacket.. hehe. But for some reason I was a bit down. I guess when you make mistakes riding it has an effect (even if they weren't severe enough to be a problem)
The ride home was uneventful. I think if I'd ridden with someone else that knew the area it would have been better. GPS - really doesn't cut it compared to local directions.
There was a nice bit of twisty road, but I was behind cars (or my wife and cars, to be more precise) and taking them at those speeds was no issue.
I'm eager to do something else like this again, but I'd probably want to do a test run the weekend before (if the route was available). I was looking more for a run with other bikers than with my wife - but it is what it is (or was). Maybe next time I'd do it by myself, but it is tough to leave my wife to handle all 4 kids by herself.
There is a large ride on October 4th - Run for the Children - perhaps it'll be something that I'll do by myself without the roving pit crew.

Sexy stomach rule: Obey....
You know, the problem with these ads is a lot of the time the before picture just isn't too bad.
Of course, it could be that I'm really just a perv.

Ahhh October 4th is out. Doing a Congential Heart Defect walk that day. Cordelia was born with 2 defect (ASD and VSD) and I think this caused a pulmonary stenosis.
She's healthy now, but I'll do the walk to raise money to hopefully determine the cause of these developmental defects and their eventual remedy with something - one can only hope - less traumatic than open heart surgery on a child.

Ahh I can't wait - my new motorcycle jacket is going to be here tomorrow.
Joe Rocket Michael Jordan XIII Jacket
I may never fit in with the cruiser biker sub-culture, but this isn't quite as geeky as my bright yellow Olympia (ok, I look at the jacket and I see green, but I think officially it is yellow).
Maybe I'll get a chance to post some pics from the Poker Run. At the very least it serves as material in the old noggin' if I ever actually end up writing anything.

Some pics from the motorcycle race me and the boys went to recently:

My son love that little dirt bike. He so wanted me to take it home!

Huh, and I absolutely loved the Michael Jordan bike they had to give away - and I somehow managed to not take any pictures of it!
[heh - in looking at the pics, I do see the Michael Jordan bike. Sweet. I want that bike with ABS. Oh yeah, they don't offer it. Hell]
I loved all the bikes I saw there - and it was the first time I saw a B-King - with someone else on it.
Some old guy - go figure...

Oh, you know that bike can move, too. Well, with a talented ride.HYPERR wrote:Love the MJ bike too! Me want! Autographed by the G.O.A.T. of course.
Me, I'd be happy to keep it off the ground and look like something other than an old man on a hot bike...

Recent picks from the Poker Run. I didn't get to take a lot of pics - and unfortunately, I missed getting pics of a lot of bikes - took the pic of the parking lot late.
I think there were probably 70 bikes there, but possibly not at the same time.

One of my two cutie pies. I think it is Morrigan, but I'm not completely sure.
Coolest bike, hands down - well, here, anyway.

The B-King - probably happy to be parked in one piece after our latest adventure - well ok, ride. I've yet to really take it on an adventure.

And some more bikes in the lot...

Some more assorted pictures, the boys, the boys and my wife, a cool flag.

Vietnam Vet re-enactment. I'm glad the boys were exposed to this, but I don't know what (if anything) they got out of it.

And finally, me, in my new Michael Jordan jacket - looking slightly less dorky than in my day glow jacket - and with a lot less hair than usual.

That's all folks!

And yes, I am smiling - at least as much as I can manage for a picture.
And yes, it does appear that there is less hair up top than there used to be.
