So, anyone know the history of the wave? How did it start? You don't usually experience this kind of thing, to this extent at least, within most other activities. To some extent, yes, but not to the extent where it's noticeable.
When I first started riding, I noticed a rider on a hot ride waved at me. I thought: "wow, I must look like I've got some street cred! I must look cool."
Now I find out some people will wave at anyone.
Kidding. I wave at anyone, also.

The history of the wave. The wave has been used since the earliest days to indicate to others that you are unarmed. So I guess we've been waving since shortly after Cain killed Able.

Cool! That is very enlightening! I never thought about that but I agree with you.

I can remember when the normal motorcycle wave was a fist pointed the wrong way like "right on man" then it evolved to a wave

I thought a hand shake was to show your unarmed or is one the verification of the other? Who knows but it sounds good to me.

I recently decided that I was getting unfit, so I bought a bicycle. Now I cycle the six miles to work instead of taking the motorcycle. Trouble is, I keep forgetting that I'm riding a bicycle and wave out of habit at passing motorcyclists. Even though I can't see most of their faces, I can see that I'm getting some fairly startled responses. LOL.
