Re: The Blog of Blues
The wrong roads are always the best roads, blues (not always the easiest rides though!) Nice (steep, gravelly) corners there!

I think it might be the only one in town, or at least one of two, maybe...Wrider wrote:Well he's got a Super Tenere, so he can't be all that bad!

Re: The Blog of Blues
Last year at USA Yamaha dealers it was a special order item, i.e. not stocked but could be ordered. Of course, no test rides with a deal like that. Don't know if that's still the case in 2012.dr_bar wrote:I think it might be the only one in town, or at least one of two, maybe...Wrider wrote:Well he's got a Super Tenere, so he can't be all that bad!

Not the case this year fortunately! I know of 3 local dealers that have them, and have seen it at 2 of them!jstark47 wrote:Last year at USA Yamaha dealers it was a special order item, i.e. not stocked but could be ordered. Re: The Blog of Blues
Has anyone seen Nick Sanders' film of his 50,000 mile non-stop ride on a Super Tenere. He rode from Ushuaia (southernmost tip of South America) to Prudhoe Bay (Nothernmost motorable point in Alaska), then (wait for it) back down to Ushuaia again, and then (get this) back up to Prudhoe Bay. He did the entire trip averaging 1,000 miles per day, breaking records by a huge margin. I can't get my head around that - 1,000 miles a day on frequently less-than-perfect roads and in some pretty foul weather, including ice and snow: he used studded tyres for part of the journey. The figures are from memory, so don't quote me, but I think they are pretty close. The guy is both extraordinary and nuts.
He claims that the Super Tenere did the entire journey without needing a single repair (except when a strap got caught round the final drive and he needed an o-ring replaced). He also claims on the film that at the end of the journey, the engine was cracked open and found to be in a pristine condition. (Extraordinary, nuts and with an astute commercial sense.)
Are there disgustingly smug faces all round at Yamaha, do you think? I think so.
Oh, and by the way, blues - Nick Sanders bike... it was... blue.
I want one.

SV...I'll look up Nick Sanders.
Doc....so far his is the only one sold here on the west coast. GA has another, but it is still in the showroom.
Wrider....yes...he's not bad at all.
