Just thought you should know that you sir, are the sole reason which I decided to get back into bikes after being rear ended 2 years ago. For that, I thank you.

I stumbled across this blog a year ago and fell in love with your work.

I have since dragged the GF on a 4 hour round trip to pick up a 76 CB500T.

I now find myself with a Vintage Honda which has serious electrical problems.

First order of business is to figure out why Im not getting any spark. Can anyone be so kind as to inform me of what I can ditch to convert my bike to kick start only. This is my first carbed bike and I really havent a clue what Im doing. 8)

The good news is that there's really no such thing as a 1975 bike with serious electrical problems, the whole harness is right there on the surface (once you take the tank and headlight off) and it's not that long or involved. First order of buisness is to track down a service manual for it... you will not get very far without it (try here)

Your starting system should look very similar to mine:

although your starer motor is behind the cylinder head with a square cover over it. or not, somehow I got it in my head that you said 750, your' 550 has the starter hung on the front of the motor just like my 360s

Thanks. Ill email you when I finally do figure out what is up with my electronics. The more I look over my bike, the more I find wrong with it. The previous owner just walked around the bike and clipped random wires for god knows what reason.

IE: Horn, Coils, headlight, blinkers, 7 grounds, kill switch, electric start, ignition, etc.

For the electric start. I can just strip off that stuff and Ill be good to go? I cant get my starter to turn anyway :)

PS. Are you really going to drive around with a huge 69 graphic on the side of the racer? I know what my Fiance would say about that. :o

Heck yeah! My girlfriend likes the nekkid chick on the back of my helmet, infact she has a pinup book.

I think it will be interesting to see how people take it. It's all kind of happenstance that I named 69. I thought it was funny that the last 2 digits in the vin were 69... and couldn't help but name it that... which basically dictated that it would be race style bike. I can't wait!

Yeah you should be able to strip all that out... I think. I haven't run that motor yet like that so I can't guarantee anything, but that's how I'm going to try it. Not pictured that you can ditch is the solenoid (which is usually right next to the battery with one wire to the positive and one to the starter motor, look up "cb750 solenoid" on ebay or google and you can probably get a pic of one) the button and wireing.

Dont even get me started on the pin-up/ nose art. I already picked out a White and black scallop paint job for the tank and contacted a local airbrush artist who will put my GF in a pose on the tank for $60.

Im seriously considering a HJC Nose art helmet but I cant get over what people are going to say when they see cartoon "lightbulbs" on my head in traffic.

On a side note, I picked up my clubmans, mirrors, K&N cones, and side markers today. Heres what Im starting with. Where exactly would I find those plugs for the starter delete?

Do I legally have to run any gauges like yourself?

People wont say anything, you might get a few compliments now and again, but not much. If it's not you, don't get it, if you want it don't bother with what the rest of them think (except your girl, you gotta respect her)

the only place to get those plugs is from me. There are a number of other types out there, but I made mine, I'll have more later, but I have a lot on my plate so it's hard to get to that stuff sometimes.

I don't know where you live but chances are yes you do need to have a speedo, a neutral light, a high beam light, a horizontally mounted plate, red reflectors visible from the rear, amber reflectors visible from the side and 45 degrees to the rear and turn signals to be legal... I know they're required here in Texas.

Isn't Haydens' number 69?

Hey, I really learned a lot reading this blog, thanks! I just bought my first bike, '71 CB500f, and will probably be working on it more than riding it.
Anyway, what do you use to clean up the metal? Do you use wire brush and buff most or use a chemical? Do you seal everything you clean? If you can save me some trial and error I'd appreciate it.
Your bikes are looking really light and really clean.

actually in texas we don't have to have signals but if you do they have to work properly and in theory be brushed up on your hand signals.
