Looking for another cruiser, or going to branch out a little? The clutch and transmission on my wife's 2009 F650GS are both smooth and soft like butter, but that bike is certainly not a cruiser.

Not necessarily a cruiser next time. Maybe a dual sport or sport touring....it will depend on what fits.
I don't think I can afford a BMW..or the maintneance costs.

Knowing your aggressive riding style and serious need for speed, you would probably do really well on a Versys or Ninja 650. Comfy as all get-out, plenty of power, and the Versys is decent enough off-road from what I hear.
