Is it a good sign that it's been ages since I've seen a thread like this?

I don't know what this indicates:

1. People have learned to read stickies, follow the advice, then end up with sensible starter bikes.

2. People have learned to read stickies, realize that no one on this forum is likely to support or validate their decision to buy a Hayabugsxrr1sswhatever, then go to a bike forum with members that will.

I think you are right on those points. It could also be that 1000cc sport bikes have gone (temporarily) out of favor as well. The 600cc's today are as powerful as the 1000cc's 11 years ago. Of course having a big 1000cc 2011 motorcycle to start on is well, still highly crazy.

I wonder if they thought they same thing in 1968 with the Honda CB750 (that was the biggest motorcycle made from Japan) when people thought mid-size was 300-360cc.

Yeah Soichiro Honda was in the minority. Many of the executives from Honda thought that there were no need for such a big bike (The British 500s and 650s were considered full sized bikes back then). He of course overruled them as he was the boss. It's ironic as he was a little guy (I'm assuming this as from the pictures I have seen of him, the vast majority of his Japanese counterparts tower over him) that he would be the one to push the industry towards larger CCs. The fact of the matter is, he was a phenomenal rider.

I agree, Soichiro Honda was quite the forward thinker of his time and did amazing things for the Honda company. The CB750K was just the start. The Honda Super Cub, there was another amazing Honda model... first produced in 1958 and still made today and 60 million sold worldwide.

because in reality it has been one month over 5 years since last post (as of the date I am writing this post).

With that said I cant believe I have been on this site that long already.

I just read the whole thread haha. Really interesting topic. I am a brand new noob joining the motorcycle world and i just finished my MSF classes yesterday. I'm currently looking for my first new bike and try to get the best gear that I can. I looking for a sport bike under 600 or a small-mid size cruiser. the problem is I am 6'3" 265lb broad athletic build and I felt uncomfortable on the Kawasaki 250. You guys have any recommendation of a good beginner bike for a big guy? Right now I like how the FZ6R felt and the V star 950 (i know the v star is above 600..) thanks guys

Wonder whatever happened to the OP. Did he buy his 600RR? Did he master it? Did he scare himself poo-pooless and give up on riding? Did he become a statistic and a red smear on the highway? Enquiring minds want to know.
