No dual sport for me. :(
I have decided to put off selling or trading my bike for now.
Instead, I am going to just change up the gs a little bit.
First in line (and already ordered) are a set of bikemaster superbike bars.
http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/ ... Handlebars
Scroll down and you will see the superbikes on another gs.
Some other things I want to do are, cartridge emulators for front forks, a head light conversion from a single to a double and steel braided brake lines.

The brake lines are at the top of my list because the stock ones are mighty squishy feeling and are over ten years old! No visible cracks that I can see, but I think it's about time for replacements.

The emulators are needed pretty badly, but I can deal with the stockers for now. And MAYBE I might even get a stiffer spring for the forks too.
Here is a pretty cool sight if you have ever thought about suspension upgrades.
http://www.racetech.com/evalving/menu/searchstreet.asp
You can pick your bike and your weight and they will find the best spring rate for you depending on if you are racing or street riding.
pretty cool stuff.

Damn, I am still supposed to get the MX running too. Oh well.

So I am a little late posting about my new handlebars.
I ordered the bikemaster superbike bars for me bike. I have had them for over a week now, but it wasn't until yesterday that I really got to test them out.

The In Between

So after about 3 hours of riding yesterday these are my thoughts on the bars.
They are almost 2 inches lower then stock. Doesn't sound like much but it makes a huge difference. A lot more pressure is on the arms and hands now. I am going to give my body plenty of time to get the proper muscles built up for the new position, but as of now I am a little sore.
If I really cant handle the new position I will just put the old bars back on.

So, on to the ride. I rode with my cousin and his friend (i usually ride alone) and it was a little different then riding alone but it wasn't bad. I am not used to having to ride as slow as they were going. But that comes with the territory when riding with someone that is riding a rigid. They like to just cruise, often going under the speed limit.

Speaking of the rigid.........

It is a pretty neat bike, I didn't get pics of it but the tank has green pin striping on it, and the seat is black and green tiger stripes. Really cool bike, just not my style though. Oh, it's a 70's yamaha xs in case ya havent figured it out. That is my cousins freinds bike.

This is my cousins...........

Brand new nightster, with a new head light... I don't really like the new head light myself. But man has that thing got some low down stump pullin torque. I am going to try to get a video or some pics of him doing wheelies on it if I can......Yes, it will do a wheelie. I didn't believe him. But he did one in front of my house. Not just picking up the front wheel a little either, it was a full on wheelie.
Anyway, I had fun riding with people for a change but I still prefer going by myself where I can ride at my own pace.

I guess I need to find someone who rides more like me.
Slightly speeding
Tearing up what little curves are available to me
Being out in the country away from the cages
Thats what Trevor likes.

Oh yeah, I think my dog is tryin to get her some from the Harley.
Hmmmm....... What would the offspring be? Harley Beaglesons?

I finally got some pictures of my brothers project.
It's A Yamaha SRX 250 that I sold to him for $1. I bought it for $500 when I was 17. I didn't ride it anymore after my friend wrecked it. Sorry sonofabitch.
Anyway, my bro decided it needed a little attention and asked if he could take it home.

So I said sure, take it. By the time he was about half way done with it I decided to just let him have it. He put a lot of work into it, so I guess he deserves it. Plus it was just going to rust away in my shop anyway.

Okay this is what it used to look like.
(not my bike but this is what it looked like)

This is what it looks like now.

The seat is being being upholstered right now, so he put a piece of corkboard and wrapped it in a piece of material he had so he could ride itto my house. I am going to replace the fork seals for him.

Not at all comfortable.

He says he is going to paint the gas tank soon. It looks really awesome the way it is, but he wants to bondo the dents so he has to paint it. :(

I thought the same thing when I first saw the 80's FJ, Hey! thats my bikes big brother!

The seat is awful! I'm bigger then my brother, so when I ride it I sit more on the fender. Talk about an atomic wedgie!
Fortunately it is temporary.

I tried. I sold the GS to get me and the kid a couple of dirt bikes. Havin lots of fun and feeling good about getting my son into motorcycling. ( he loves it ) But now I am itching to ride on the street again. The lil wheelie machine(79 MX100) is tons of fun, if not a little rough on my back with the suspension on the back, but I just need those lonely rides in the farmlands and empty highways. They were my only times of zen. So Im on the hunt again. Im selling my snapon tool box friday and my 40. pistol tomorrow so that will put me a little over a grand. Add to that whatever else I can manage to scrape up the next few months and I might just be able to upgrade to a 93 GS500  Also thinking about getting an 70's era japanese twin. Hard to decide between modern and reliable and cooler and reliable. Or I could try to go cooler cool and not reliable and get a BSA twin or thumper and rock it all cool like and dodo. 8) My uncle says he can get a good deal on some BSA's for me, just dont know if that is what I will really be happy with riding out in the middle of nowhere.

Whats a guy to do....

I just rode a friend's new GS500 today... Those things put 600s to SHAME in the corners! lol I'd rock one of those without a second thought!

As for a 70s era japanese bike... Personally something like a Yamaha 850 Special (triple) or something like that would be awesome! Indestructible engines, fun to ride (so I've heard) and lots of aftermarket parts and accessories for em!

I doubt if I could put every guy on a 600 to shame in the corners, but I have put more to shame then have put me to shame. 8) The guy on the busa didn't stand a chance on MY roads that one time. The giant pack of sport bike riders I got behind one time on another of MY roads pissed me off so bad one time I could spit. They would fly away in the straights but as soon as there was a slight curve in the road I would come flying up on them and they would be holding me back from having fun. So yeah, the 500 can handle if you aren't afraid of it.

I just cant decide what to get though. There is a seca II in my price range on craigs list I am considering. Would be nice to have a four cylinder. But it was said to be in good condition mechanically but had some cracks in the fairings.
There are a few ole' japanese bikes too I would be interested in.

I guess I'll wait until the right one finds me.
