I was out riding last Sunday. Some members of the SCRC from Victoria came over so a couple of us from out local chapter hooked up with them. I was so impressed by their enthusiasm. Even on an ugly rainy day, they had a tremendous turnout.
I could only ride along for a short time due to the fact I was going to another event in the afternoon. I rode my bike to North Van and lucky me, the rain stopped and the sun came out.
Likewise for the big group, their enthusiasm paid off because they also got the benefit of having the rain stop for their day.
You out riding old-n-slow?

No Actually I havn't been. The weather has been really crappy. I've been to coffee with the group at Timmies a couple of Sundays but have not gone on any group rides with them. I need to sync my carbs on the oldie and see if it idles a wee bit better but can't seem to get a round to it. You know I think those "round to it's" are the hardest doggone things in the world to find.blues2cruise wrote: You out riding old-n-slow?

I'll be licensing the piglet about the begining of April as I am registered to learn how to ride (experienced riders course I believe it's called) over the weekend of April 7, 8, 9. MIght as well do it on the machine I intend to operate most don't-cha think?
We have been getting this really wicked white stuff drifting around for the past few days. Thanks be to whomever the stuff doesn't seem to accumulate. Got some pictures of it this morning as it coated the leaves and blossums on one of my trees. It's kinda like booze though .... It don't keep 'cause it was gone by noon.

Beautiful here today, should go riding but have other things to do .....ohh well.blues2cruise wrote:Likewise here, too. Snowed last night, minus one this morning, tropical this afternoon.
Ask me that in a month or so .blues2cruise wrote:What kind of things do you do in an experienced rider's course?

I guess you are going to be busy. Seems I recall reading that you were helping with inventory? SCRC people ride on Sundays but I can't make it for that Sunday because of the safety course or what ever it is called. However if you're looking for things to do on Sunday........blues2cruise wrote: I'm coming to Victoria in April...probably the 8th until the 10th or 11th.
One of these times. I'm gonna get to meet you. Wife and I almost feel like we know you. I keep showing her your posts and telling her that "Here's a gal not much younger than you who got her license just a couple years back."
She is thinking about taking the course this summer. Best part of doing that is that she can decide if she really wants to ride without having the expense of buying a bike just to learn that it's not for her. And she won't ride my Harley and the Yamaha is too big (high) for her.

My plan at the moment is to come over on the Saturday and get myself a hotel room (like a little mini holiday). The inventory is Sunday from around 11am until around 3 or 4. We usually just come for the day but this year it falls on a week that I had scheduled for a vacation week, so I decided to take a couple of extra days over there.
It would be great to get in a little meet and greet and a ride. We can plan something a little closer to the time.
Did you say you were retired now?

Sounds good to me. I got more time then money and definately retird now, well sort of, but only work between 6:00 am and 9:00 am so plenty of time to enjoy life each day, after that. It works for me..........blues2cruise wrote:My plan at the moment is to come over on the Saturday and get myself a hotel room (like a little mini holiday). I managed to get a ride lined up for Saturday with the SCRC. They are going to meet me and whoever from this side comes over and show us around. Woohoo!
Alas, the inventory job is Sunday still. I have a friend over there that I plan to see as well.
I have a question for you. I could just pick any motel, but, you may know of one that is decent for reasonable and somewhat quiet somewhere between downtown and the hospital.
Leaves lots of scope, doesn't it?
I've been in a few over there, but unfortunately I don't remember what they were called.
I stayed in Sydney once as well, and that was nice. That was one night when I was sitting in the ferry lineup waiting for the last ferry....which was so very late, when they finally announced there would not be a ferry due to high winds.
Sigh.....I needed to get home.
Anyway, I got my money back and went into Sydney to get a hotel room for the night and caught the first ferry in the morning. I was a bit late for work, but they were understanding.

Many years since I stayed in a motel in Victoria. When I did it was usually the cheapest and I think many of them house welfare people these days so not sure bout recommending any of those.
Wife says check out the Travelers Inn (about 9 of them around) and some are right in the area where you asked. Pricing should be decent at this time as it is off season for tourists.
I saw your post on the SCRC website. I enjoy the Saturday rides much better then the Sunday ones. That weekend though, I am committed so can’t make the rides. I am booked for the advanced riders course for those days. I'm sure they'll look after you quite well unless it happens to be torrential down pouring or the like
. Really great people for the most part.

My friend in Victoria said I could stay at her place for a few nights. I only need a motel for Saturday night. If I have to pay for only one night, I may get myself something just a tad nicer.
It looks like there will be a few folks from here going over with me.
They promised to take us someplace for "really good coffee".
You got a name on the SCRC forum?

I do have a "handle" on SCRC. it's "Garry (OGshoe)".
I don't post all that often there nor do I participate in all that many of the rides. (I'm selective) I'm known for riding up island with the bunch, stopping for lunch with them and then splitting off on my own as I can't abide the two hour plus lunch breaks. I sort of got in that habit after my open heart surgery when I didn't have the energy to do the all day thing and kinda continued doing it that way. I'm rather independent.
I think there are one or two members that don't like it much but that's their problem.
I have mixed feelings about riding with really large groups since last year when there was a problem due to a couple of inexperienced riders. I'm also of the opinion that the group travel too close together for safety so I have been known to leave more space then some like, therefor get passed by those. That suits me just fine.
Like I said -- independent..
