After I get my experience, I would like to get a 600, then a 1000(I ultimately want the Ducati 1098). If I started on a 600 and in the unlikely event that I rode it very well in a short amout of time, I would ended up selling it anyway. I figured that what's the point of getting started on a 600 if I'm going to sell it either way?

Heh. Let's see if you still feel this way after you get your experience

Well, keep in mind those are three DIFFERENT bikes. The first two, the 600 and the 1K are similar in the way they are built, and that they are I-4 motors. The Duc 1098 puts out a little more than the 600, but is an L-Twin motor, which is a completely different animal than the I-4. More torque, less top end, but still enough to wow you.
The point on buying something that isn't what you ultimately want is that you can learn on it. Thrash it, learn on it, learn what you can and can't do on a more forgiving bike, then upgrade to the bike that you want.
If you are ultimately leaning toward the Duc, try for the Suzuki SV650S first. Then after riding that for a year or two, switch to the 1098 if you still want to.

Dude, the 1098 has 160hp (150 rwhp) and 90 ft-lbs of torque. In comparison, the Gixxer 1000 has about 175hp (162 rwhp) and 80 ft-lbs of torque. That is NOT that far off. Granted, a V-twin will feel different, but you are making it sound like the 1098 is somehow gimped in the top end due to it being a twin. Last time I checked, 150rwhp is WAY more than a 600. It is just a tad under the 1000cc I-4 bikes, but it has more torque.
The Ducati 1098 is a very, very, fast bike, and it should not be compared to a 600cc I-4 in any way. It definitely has the guts to compete with the japanese liter bikes.
That being said, I think the 1098 can only be appreciated by riders who have quite a few years of real sport riding experience. I'm definitely not anywhere near that point, and I don't consider myself a slouch. The best thing a new rider can do is start small and move up incrementally. You won't learn how to find the limits of a bike if you learn on bikes you are incapable of reaching the limits of.

A little bit yeah. Though a 650 Twin wouldn't be an issue. Still, take the MSF if you havn't already.

It is a nice bike, just take it easy that's all.
I have almost two years of dirtbiking, that's all, I just bought a R6 for a first bike.
