Riding to work in the rain

I rode my bike to work today. Although it is an enjoyable ride into work in the morning, it is also a big pain in the you know what. The reason is because after I get to work, there is no secure place to leave my belongings.
If I leave them in the little trailer at our lot, there is a chance that someone will be messing with my helmet or that my jacket will go missing. So, I have taken to stashing them in my bus with me while I drive around all day.
I was going to help someone count inventory after work and I needed transportation other than the public bus to get me to Richmond on time. Normally I would have gone in my car, but the store manager there was disappointed last year that he didn’t get to see me on my bike. So I rode this year. Although it was forecasted to rain, I have enough experience now, to ride home at night even if it raining a bit. I know the roads well enough so that I can choose well lit roads in good condition.
After work, I geared up and headed out to Richmond. On my way over the Knight Street Bridge, (which can be tricky at the best of times, let alone rush hour) I spied an eagle and a crow dueling it out in the air nearby. Darn it! I was wishing I was not on the bridge so I could pull over to watch and maybe snag a photo. I’m on the lookout for a photo competition called “airborn”. But the bridge is a bad place to be looky-looing, so averted my eyes back to the road ahead. I arrived at the camera store just on time and believe me I created quite a stir when I arrived wearing my gear and carrying my helmet. Paul, the manager, was thrilled to see me and was out the door like a shot to have a look.
In past years, I have given Paul a ride home after inventory, but this year he had to scoop a ride from someone else. I am glad to report that the ride home was uneventful. I went a little out of my way to go home. I could have gone a more direct route, but the roads would have been too dark especially on a rainy night. So, in order to be safer, I took a long way home.
It gets better and better every time I ride….except for the mud….I wonder if I spray the whole bike with Pam cooking spray would it help the mud to just slide off and not stick to my bike?
