Well one thing I got to say on this topic is that congrates to Cali. and the second is that if cycle cops are not used in high speed chased that often unless it involves a cycle or as back up to assist other cops in the cages when the individual is stoped. They are also used a lot as escort detail for special events. They also so there regular duty like patroling and the sort. A cycle cop can get in to areas faster and easier than that of one in a cage.

And that is all I got to say on that

Alot of county departments have been using the HD motors for a long time. The training is rigourous and challenging and some don't pass their first time. I see alot of the training sessions they have out here at an airport on the weekend. It's crazy to see what they learn to master on those big "O Ring" things.

Just last week I returned from Arizona, around Phoenix. One thing I saw quite a few times was motorcycle police. Every time it was a BMW, and I was quite surprised. Seem like perfect bikes for the job. They are upright, relatively light, seemed to have a good power band, and even have a stealthyness about them, since they don't look like the traditional US bike (see Harley).

I live in Japan. here the coppers ride Honda vfr 800s. Dont see many cops on the road at all. in cars or bikes. The speed cameras on the highways have to take the pictures from the front to get a shot of the drivers face to confirn the drivers identity. Bikes only of course have plates on the back so you can go as fast as you want on a bike. Thought the highways are outragously priced toll roads.

Looking for the article, but I read that HD failed on the high speed manuever test and didn't get the CHP contract. I live in So.Cal and I haven't seen a cop on a Harley in years. Lots of funeral escort guys - but no real cops. Just last week I saw both a Sheriff and a city cop on Hondas. I don't know Hondas so I think it must be the new FJ something or other - nice looking bike. As far as CHP - I still see them on BMWs. Lots of them ride HD's in their off time, but kind of hard to beat a BMW for splittting lanes in this hell traffic.

As for "slow Harleys?" I have buddies in town with HD's that will smoke any CHP bike....but no one outruns the radio...

HDs testing center is at Talladaga. You can take any touring model and and 60 MPH pull the handle bars to one side at full lock and let go. I will return to the middle and you will stay up right. Seen the test on a video. The tester has balls of steel. I do not. Dont try that at home kids?

That doesn't account for high-speed wobble which is what brought the problem out. Personally, I had a Trumpie try to get crappy with me on my RoadGlide which I had tuned and bored - I ran it up his as* at 110 and it was smooth as can be.

Latest I heard - HD did get the contract back though. I've only felt high speed wobble on a Superglide and that could have been a bad frame. Any brand can have a bad engine-mount to frame balance. I think the FLT frame is as solid as they come.

honda has a police version of the ST 1300, I seen one at my local dealer...touching close.

I can also tell you for certain..on two accounts this is happening. A few months back I spoke with a CHP motor officer...he confirm it. He did not know when it would happen.?

2nd...a building I work at a few times a weeks...in West Sac...is right behind the car track where they train new CHP officers...in the cars. Well....I have seen more times than I can remeber in the last10 months....CHP officers on all white HD testing on the track.

Well, I've always had faith in the FLT frame. It feels solid and with the new 96" there will be plenty of top end. Resale on Police HDs may
be the reason - I see the BMW CHP bikes going pretty cheap - Kawi's
too, but even the old PD HD's hold value.

I just switched back to an FLT after riding FX's for quite awhile.
StreetGlide coming in a week - got the basic for price. Almost
another grand if you want spokes and color.
