I ride in the rain all the time, no probs.
Things I do are;
Have all the right gear on so im dry and comfortable
Stay off any and all markings on the roads white lines etc
ride in the drivers wheel track infront of you, at a good safe distance.
employ the 1000 yard stare
when planned braking i use the engine to break nearly all my speed, only applying front brakes for the complete stop
I never use rear brake at all ever for any reason at all (i need to get it removed)
If you have to brake suddenly in the wet, squeez ya fronts as you normally would then treat any symptoms ya get from that, whilst looking for outs, you may lowside, but honestly lowsiding is one way of stopping that can result in no injuries and little bike damage.
Trick is, what ever room you allowed for in the dry, double it for the wet, and have your witts about you, cars seem to drive wierdly in rain, well the y do in Australia.
one las thing
there is no harm in dismounting under a bridge or ledge and waiting for the rail to pass, after all the object is safe clean fun.
