Congrats on the Meanstreak! My husband's first bike was a Honda 1100 and was on a Vulcan Classic 1600 within 4 months, he didn't believe in starting small either. As with any other bike, just know your skill level and practice as much as you can. Looking forward to seeing pics!!!

That's an intresting link dragonhawk, good info to know just incase.

Well.. If your an idiot you can join my club ... I bought a 2006 Mean Streak, red/black and I love it. 3 months and 1700 miles later and I know I made a great choice. Yea.. a couple of days getting use to the size but now it feels perfect. Anything smaller and I would have kicked myself.

Dude - you're riding the same bike as me! Isn't the color scheme the best?! Have fun.

Cheers,
Loonette

It's great ... it stands out. Some have asked if it's custom. I could ride the thing all day.

Congrats on the purchase! Just don't do anything silly on the road and everything will be fine. Don't consider yourself to be dumb for your selection. Remember that every single individual is different, just be responsible. I started out last year on a 1670cc bike. 10K miles later, me and the bike are happy and healthy.

What he did was smart, he purchced a big bike as his first bike, that way he made a wise investment with his money. The problem most people have with their first bike is they quickly grow tired and bored with it and always want a bigger bike. Im not a big fan of the Mean Streak, but its a better bike than any HD.

I figure, well it looks like he's been waiting a while, lets let him in. I slow down even more, and motion for him to pull ahead. He just looks at me. I'm about 30 yards away, so I motion again. He gets the idea and pulls forward.

He walks his bike, left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot, around the corner. I groan inwardly, oh god, he can't turn it. And then pull up behind him. The car in front of him stops, so he stops and puts down both feet. I'm still doing that super slow crawl thing where you don't yet have to put down a foot, and can almost be said to have stopped. He keeps one hand on the clutch turns around and looks over his shoulder and yells something at me that cannot be heard over the engine.

"WHAT?"

"I've been doing this for three days!"

What do you say to that? "Man that's awsome!" And flash a thumbs up.

The car in front of him pulls ahead and he walks his bike up to speed and rides off. I still haven't put down a foot, but I wince inwardly that someone who was teaching himself to ride would do so on such a big bike and then only wear a denim shirt to protect himself.
Thank goodness we in Australia have laws that stop riders learning on huge bikes and therefore protect people from their own stupidity.

I was gonna say...WTF, Moto!?!?

And yeah, congratz on the Meanie. I continue to be completely satisfied with mine. No mechanical or electrical issues whatsoever. Its weight and size is just perfect for the type of riding I do. I'm 5'9" 175lbs. I've logged over 7k mile in under 5 months. My goal is 10k before the riding season is over.
