The wave experiment

This is how it goes down in California.

Most everyone I wave to waves back. I'd say 90%. THere are a few exceptions. Of course the macho Harley riders with skull caps don't wave. The cool normal Harley riders, like my uncle, wave to everyone. I DO NOT wave to scooters. I HATE SCOOTERS! They aren't motorcycles. And the only other time I don't get waved at is if I pass someone during a tight corner, where they just can't take thier hands off the bike, or they will loose control.

The posers on the sport bike are either a) doing stupid things or b) wearing sneakers or shorts or something obvious. If I can't tell, I wave just in case. Usually the guys who are riding on the bigger sport touring bikes like the busa, are more friendly then the little 600 bikes.

And little kids LOVE the sound of my bike with my pipe. I rev it for them all the time, because I know when I was that age I would have loved it if somebody revved at me.

The biking culture around this town has changed a lot in the past 10 years or so... some people just are hip to the wave thing. oh well. only you can decide if it's worth keeping the camraderie around... if you keep waving, others will wave back, maybe just not as many as used to... wave at 'em when you are soaking in the rain.. that's when the camraderie is more understood and appreciated.

Tried a new type of wave the other day. It worked like a charm. i had some dip$hit in a fraud explorer or similar following me. He kept getting right on my ash. There were two bikes ahead of me a several cars ahead of them so we all had no place to go. Finally, one time he got rather close again so i cut the throttle and lifted my left hand with middle finger raised. Freaking amazing. He got the message and I had no further problem with him tailgateing after that. Now that was a wave that worked........

as for people not waving at scooters here is my dissertation--i have got 3 of them--xc125 yamaha--yamaha vino 50cc--ch125 honda--plus 4 street bikes.the scooters average from 58 to 71 miles per gallon.i dont care whether anybody waves or not.
