Look at the guys that own harleys they are total losers, they are fat, overweight and lazy, they drink, use drugs, beat up women and everybody loves and respects them only because they own a harley.
This "post" places you in a position more contemptible than the most obnoxious Harley rider. It reflects very poorly on you. I am confident, however, that this is your intent. Amusing, to say the least...
i'm having this debate too, as a future bike owner. i can easily afford a sportster, but don't particulary like the feel of it. but i do love the other harleys. i can't decide if i should get a japanese cruiser (the way i am leaning) or get a entry level sportster and be uncomfortable. LOL
Yeah, hold off on the hog...especially if you're uncomfortable on it. You want to be comfortable on a bike and be able to enjoy it.
After some experience, you can move up to a nicer, more comfortable Harley if you so desire.
I, myself, like the V-Rods, but I am nowhere near enough in the financial area to get one, or experience. I "settled" on a Japanese cruiser, myself. MotoF150's nemesis...the Suzuki M50.
i have a c-50 cruser, it carries me and the wife at or above the speed limit
with no trouble, it is smooth and responsive.
It boils down to what makes you happy.Wheather it is harley,or metric
it's what you think about your bike that really counts. if you critizise your bike others will run it down too.
Co-worker picked up his bike this week, silver and blue 2006 dyna lowerider, with detatchable widnshield and priority sdervice agreement 20,000$ out the door.
Ridiculous!
I would buy 3 nice low mile used bikes for that (1200 bandit $4000, CBR954 $6500 and maybe 01 RC51 $ 6000 or a mid 90's ducati 900SS instead).
I had a 1970 sportster when I was 16, my first road bike, it was a bad idea then, bad idea now.
Ill pay $30,000 for a MV Augusta, Aprilla RSV Mile or a trick 999, but not a harley, steel flex framed, no power, no trick parts, ugly (stock) cruiser.

Come on now, you know we can ride together, I started my street days on a harley.
We all like different things, cars, women, sports, but we are all bikers! I dont care what you ride, lets ride.
I just think the pricing got a little out of control, maybe a few ponies to go with the 1450CC's would change my mind too, but we can sure knock back a pitcher and go for a ride ( though maybe not in that order)!

Nice save! That happens to be one of my philosophies, too.

The price thing depends on where you live, I guess. Here in Canada the '07's have dropped an average of $1,800 over the 06's. BTW, the new motor is now 1584cc. I'll let you know if there's an appreciable difference in power when I test ride a few on Monday.
Its no suprise their sales are falling. The Metrics are really taking their cruisers seriously now. For $13k new you can get a VTX 1800, get a 110 ci motor, Honda Reliability, and a better looking bike with smoother lines than a harley in my opinion.
Add to that the power for the money. You want a Harley with a 110 CI engine you have to wait for the 07 models, and then shell out $30 grand for a Screamin Eagle.
30 grand for "equivelent" performance. And their engines are still air cooled (save the VRod) which means the Harley 110 engine still won't put as much thump to the ground as the VTX 110 engine. Harley needs to get off its cushy leather couch and get back to building bikes that can compete with other current offerings.
Now Victory...There's an American bike I'll rave about. Good stuff there. I've test ridden two models including the newest addition (Jackpot I think?). Those were competative motorcycles.
