thanks holiday. what do you normally put in yours?

I just use a regular backpack. It doesn't really get too wet in the rain cause as long as I'm moving my front takes all the water. You might also line the inside with a trash bag or something if you really need it waterproofed. And I don't see how someone can catch any part of a pack on another car without the rest of his body/bike hitting it first unless he's a moron and leave straps hanging off everywhere. I wouldn't worry about that one too much.

i commute daily so i have the following in there for those trips:

laptop
digital camera
external hard drive
palm pilot
cellphone
a big "O Ring" chain lock

thats normally it. a lot more would fit, but I dont really have a need for anything else. On weekend trips I normally take my tailbag, or both depending on what i'm doing. But for every day use i prefer the messenger bag over the tailbag because its much easier to take with you when you get off the bike.

and thats a medium size? I'm debating between a medium and a large. I need something that can hold a bunch of smaller books plus a head set, or hold a sweat shirt, jacket, towel, pants lunch etc.

yea they really are big. if i were you though i'd try to fid a store that stocks them and try out the different sizes. REI has them. Check timbuk2's website for locations.

Damn - Called out and I can't find the information !

Anyway - Alot of people here (Italy) use purses/ packs with steel cord in the straps - keeps a thief from cutting them. I also *think* that Cordura or woven nylon stuff may actually be strong enough to rip an arm off.

However, since I can't find the story, I guess we can just chalk it up to heresay.

I've used a pack, but I find them uncomfortable for riding. I now have a top box (That's big enough for 2 helmets) but then again, I ride a BMW so it doesn't really interfere w/ the look. Courier bags are more porpular here (Based on my observations) than backpacks - but then again, more professionals commute here - people who probably don't like the "look" of a backpack.
