nice of you to help the kid out. i'd like to further assist him by taking that (now broken) bike off his hands.

That must have been pretty freaky to see. It think you did the honorable thing by trying to accomodate the guy while help arrived. I'm sure the Medics kept him comftable.

Yeah, but everyone sees cops, so they don't have to worry.

Yeah that was my initial reaction too. I mean sure it's fun to laugh at the guys in shorts and t-shirts, but when it comes down to someone needing help your personal agenda should go out the window. Anyway good you patched him up a bit. When I wrecked I started staggering down the middle of the road covered in mud with a smashed helmet and a bike in the ditch. Four or five cars went by before a fire department vehicle finally stopped. It's almost laughable how much people suck.

We live in a society where it's likely you'll get sued by the person you're trying to help. "I've had constant pain and it's because he didn't splint my leg properly ... etc"

People suck, yeah, but sometimes the victims suck too. I've stopped for people in Italy, because they don't have a sue-happy culture. But in the states? I'd make a call on the cell phone maybe, but there's no need to stop and "lend a hand."

This is the world we've made for ourselves.

That's not exactly correct. Every state in the USA has "good samaritian" laws on the book. Meaning you can't be sued for trying to help someone in an emergency situation even if you totally F it up.

One possible exception to the law (altho I'm sure it varies from state to state)
If you actually are a doctor and stop to help someone you can be sued.
Which is strange cuz that means doctors won't stop to help for fear of being sued. And a doctor is who I would be looking for in an emergency situation.
