I don't know about where you live, but here, you can get videos at the public library for zero charge.
If there is particular movie you want from your Blockbuster or whoever, ask them to reserve the copy for you. They would do that here.

Well we signed up on Friday and selected a bunch of movies. Haven't received any yet.

Certainly I'll be patient, but they advertise 1 day delivery. If they admit that it takes several business days for anything to arrive (especially since all my movies are available 'now') fine, but don't get me excited with 1 day delivery that you don't provide

Eh it picks up pretty nicely once you're in their system. Figure you put the order in Friday, don't count Sat/Sun ever, 99% of the time you'll have the movies Monday. It's possible that they didn't "get" your order till close of Friday and it's the first thing to do Monday.

If you order late on a friday (after around noon) one day delivery would mean Monday by post office standards. They don't do bulk shipping on saturdays for businesses really.
I've had Netflix for years and I really like it. One thing I noticed someone said was that the court case made them remove the delays - that's not true. The court case is what made them change their terms of service to say they could do that.
Most people who get nailed are those that do a TON of turn around. The only time I got throttled was when we were catching up on Sex and the City and we had about 9 DVDs in one week. Next one took a few days to get to us after that.

Netflix is great because you can get just about anything your little heart desires.

One day isn't out of line depending on where you are and where the movies are. I've had them come in a day.
Part of the problem is that they use the sending and receiving to customers to distribute the dvds between their distribution centers... so if they have too many copies of a movie on the east coast and not enough in Hawaii they'll mail a Hawaiian customer a movie from the east coast... and if they have too many in Hawaii and not enough on the West coast they'll mail from Hawaii to a customer in Oregon.

Got the movie Tuesday. Mailed it back this morning. We'll see what kind of turnaround we get during the week
