who here can honestly say they obey posted speed limits?

I do the speed limit. Only time im likely to exceed it is when im passing someone. I don't like hanging out in the left lane. Speeding just aint my thing. I'm early 90% of the time anyway.

On the bike I frequently do not stick to the speed limit.

In the car however I do, unless motorway driving.

in town I just tend to go with the flow of traffic. 80-85mph on the interstate and about the same on backroads. there are a few areas in colorado where I will cruise at 90-95 but in those areas even the cages cruise at that speed.

I obey the law most of the time truthfully, but when I break it, I bust it up good. 100mph in a 35 zone and such. Just when the mood strikes me.

I try to keep to the spped limit. But there was one time when a honda civic flew by me and I had to show him who was boss.

When in CA....

I go the prevailing speeds. Could care less what the posted speed limit is 95% of the time... though I've found that at least on surface streets prevailing speeds are usually very close to posted speeds in CA because we set the speed limits sensibly (i.e. based on engineering surveys of how fast people drive on that road) for the most part. On the highway prevailing speeds range from a tiny fraction of the speed limit up to 10-15 over because highway speed limits are arbitrary (unlike surface street speed limits) in CA.

If there is no prevailing speed because I'm the only one on the road I'll usually go about the speed limit but I'm not super picky about it... if there's a curve I might speed up or an interesting view might slow me down.

The only bike vs car difference is highways that are running at below 35MPH or so... on a bike I'll be filtering at 10-25 below the posted speed limit.

When out of state I follow the speed limits 'cause most of the country is nutty about them... and they have speed traps and other things that are illegal in CA... don't want to waste my time dealing with screwball laws in backwater states or the good-old-boy LEOs that enforce them. Last time I was on the east coast I think I was one of five people who actually followed the speed limits in NJ... but it still ain't worth the risk.

That made me laugh because it is so true. If you follow the speed limit in NJ, people think you are a wierdo and won't be very happy with you. I know I hate getting stuck behind someone doing barely 30 in a 25mph zone.

in town, I stick with the speed limnit, although out main road through town is also the highway, the limit is 50 Km/h but most will do aprox 60, at night its worse, which has resulted in 2 pdestrians getting killed by semis in the last year.

on the high way I'll do 10 KM over, or I will once I get the break in done, for now I stick to the limit.

I try my best to stick in between 5-10mph over on the city streets....but even then there are times that my bike malfunctions and twists my wrist.

The freeway is a different story. 70mph here only applies to 18 wheelers. There is a stretch after the border check point headin down to San Diego that flows at 90.
