When you get back, talk to your unit safety officer. There is usually a waiting list, but every post has a motorcycle safety program that will get you into the course and will pay for it. If they require you to have the course to do any riding, on or off post, they sure as hell had better pay for it as well. It makes sense for them to shelve out a little money if it saves the lives of even a few soldiers.

if the army will train you to serve your country, they should (and from what i hear they do) pay to train you to ride. they are just protecting their investment in you.

Even living up in Canada, i hate hearing about guys coming back from overseas and then getting killed/injured in a bike/car accident. After all you guys go through "over there" and finally make it home to family and friends it would be horrible for the reunion to be at a funeral.
