What mods would I have to do on it to start?

you don't need performance mods, all you need is to track prep your bike accdg to your chosen trackday org's policies.

but of course... keep in mind that GS500F is not race tuned so don't go leaning too extremely like you would on a RR bike.

but you'll probably scrape pegs before you can lean too much on your bike.

I would be afraid to drag a peg on the Gs. They have rubber feelers on the pegs. I think that could upset me.

do I need to repost the pic of mr duct tape knee sliders. I have photographic proof that you can safely get a GS500 over to knee dragging lean angles.

you know what bike owned the lightweight twin class before the SV came along? I'll give you a hint - it starts w/ Suzuki and ends w/ GS500. All you need is safety gear. Prep the bike according to the track policies, and get out there and ride. You do not need to worry about it not being an "RR" - I've got photos somewhere, of a track prepped 95 GS500E passing a 00 GSXR600 at Texas World Speedway in one of the sharpest turns on the track, naturally he was repassed on the straights, but don't underestimate your bike - it'll do what you ask it, if you ask it correctly. Plenty of people overestimate themselves, and wad their bikes in the process.

They race GS500's in some places. And Verm, sorry to burst your bubble but having a faster bike doesn't mean it can lean farther. Having skill means you can go further, but that's about it. Lean as far as you can, it WILL hold!

My bud rides a 1988 Honda Hawk GT. He's worn out more pucks than anyone I know, and his feeler pegs have been worn smoothe down to the footpeg itself.

Ignore what Verm has to say, he's been taken in by the "Advertisement Fluff" that gets posted by fellow owners and manufacturers alike. And he REALLY likes to toot his own horn, though he claims not to.... LoL

a GS500 is more then capable of blowing you away through the corners. And along the straights.

Verm, I don't think you'll ever have to worry about how you'll react to dragging a knee.

Thanks guys. I have another thread that asks about lean angles. I am going out tomorrow and trying to work on it. I will let you all know how it went.
