Awesome!!!
Feels good huh?
I was kind of laughing at first as I read this though, as I can't even get my bike up on the center stand unless it's pointing uphill :frusty: .

Also wondering what bike she has an eye on for the future?

This scooter you can just stand on the "foot" of the center stand and it will just go up on it. (even if you weigh a little over a hundred pounds.)

She is concentrating on riding for now, but we talked about later bikes- she seems to be interested in staying on a scooter, but perhaps a larger (125 Vino?) more powerful scooter.

The bug has bitten!

BTW you have to go through the MSF course to get your full license, so I'm her "coach for now" and then when she goes through that, I'll be her "coach for life".

happy happy, joy joy!

Well, congrats are in order to your daughter, and to you for coaching her through the first few miles in safety. Keep riding, and stay safe!

Congrats to your daughter! - have you introduced her to this site yet?

I've told her about this site, but she hasn't visited yet.

She has been asking me daily when we ride next. Hopefully the weather will permit it Saturday.

She wants to do the "Per Tutto Rejoice" ride. That's the ride I took one morning on the bike in my avatar, and then when I got home, wrote the story. I posted it on this site before, don't know if it was lost during the "attack", so I re-posted it in "Total Motorcycle Talk" forum.

It was mostly back roads, several covered bridges and about 50 miles(?) round trip. She has wanted to do that ride since she got her temps.

MY 4 YEAR OLD IS READY?

My 4 year old son started riding on the gas tank of my ZX9 when he was about 2, holding on to the fairing stay. He'd do funny stuff at first, like let go of the stay bracket and hold his hands in the air, he'd giggle, id say what are you doing, hed scream as if scared grab the stay bracket and giggle his but off even more. Anyway I grabed him one of those cheap $200. dollar electric razor bikes.. (i rode it.. its pretty fast with a 40 pound kid on it) I cant get him off the damb thing since christmas (were in florida so we ride all year ..LOL). Believe me when i say .. its really hot down here. Im no squid and wear my leathers on every phyco sunday ride. Any way my point is I make him wear a helmet, gloves, boots, leg and arm protectors.. etc.. I wont let him on that bike without it. He's fliped that bike, cashed into a pole with that bike, went over the handle bars on that bike (that one scared me a little i admit) but he's geting better everyday, he still loves it and brags about his crashes or his lack of crashes to everyone. I think thats my fault. every few months I'll be re-working the bike, bent subframes, painting etc.. Hey diggers will do that to a bike you know. And he loves to help, he even learned how to mark the heavy spot with a crayon when we ballance my rims/tires.
He loves it, I wont keep it from him.
Road racing is a better high then any drug on the planet. And my 4 year old is hooked. I say good for him.
I say good for your daughter. Hope she does well.

JMO, I think if she's only 16, you need to see if she can handle driving a car safely for a year before putting her out on the street on a bike. You may not win her friendship with that one, but at least she'll be around to hate you until she's 17.

JJ wrote:A MSF course if fell is a must for new riders these days. Lots of experience packed into a few hours of lessons. If your kid is going to ride you have an opportunity to see his or her riding style on some of the many group rides you will do an have a chance to 'recommend' some improvements. If you ride and you kid is going to anywhay what an opportunity for you!

Absolutely! If my child decides to ride, I'd love for him to start while he's still at home, mainly so that he can ride a couple years with me and some other folks who have been riding for a while BEFORE he gets off with a bunch of college kids.... BUT that'd be no substitute for a course. That's a must.

Hey Joe

I hear where your coming from. My youngest would like to ride but fortunately she's more interested in hockey right now. I hope one day to buy a couple of dirt bikes and I'll teach to ride off road where there is no cagers to worry about.

As a father one always worries extra about their own daughter's safety.

Ah the grey hairs!

I think training her on a bike/scoot would make her a more alert cager, really.

( :O Let me know if you ever wanna ride around the middle of the state. 8) I ride all over, even near Ann Arbour, but Inkster is a wee bit out there for a day ride. )
