get a ninja 250. its fun and you'll save about 2 grand off the 500's and 5+ grand off a gixxer.

the 250 is awesome, light and nimble and if you know what your doing, you can use the bike to its potential.

99% of people riding 600cc bikes only use about 50-60% of the bikes potential when riding on public streets, but on a 250 you can use 90+%.

it'll do 105mph and i have run down 600cc bikes in the tail of the dragon (deals gap TN/NC, check out www.dealsgap.com) with mine.

best beginner bike ever.

Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you found us before getting talked into a 600RR

don't get me wrong, they are great and fun bikes- you just have to learn how to use a bike on something much safer first. It's always better to master the beast than have the beast master you... that's sound bike advice, pet owner advice and, dare I say it, dating advice- and you can take that to the bank.

do some research & read some feedbacks and sit on a few bikes. I'm a new rider and I bought my 05 GS500 in April. I love it.

As you have heard from many others here....be smart....start small. The Ninja 250 is a super bike, and one of the people at work...a 225# guy uses one as his daily commute, so don't immediately think that 250 means "small". It is just much more manageable and a much better bike to learn on. You can find used ones quite reasonably priced....learn on it...and then sell it for just about what you paid for it. People are always looking for introductory(I hate the newbie thing) bikes, and you will be able to learn....evaluate what else is out there....and then replace your 250 with something larger, etc. should you desire without losing any money. Kind of a good thing, IMHO.
