My interest in bikes started when I was 17. I wanted a sportbike but circumstances kept me from getting a bike back then (in hindsight, this may have been a good thing, as I was a lot younger and stupider back then).

the bug would nibble at me every few years or so after that, but between college and other things going on in my life I didn't have the time or money.

Last year it finally bit hard. My wifes cousin dragged us along when she went bike shopping, she decided to get back in the saddle after 25 years. After that I decided to give in to the urge, found this site in July of last year, took the MSF last september, got my first bike in December, started riding in february.

My tastes in bikes has also run the gamut, when the bug first nibbled back in high school I wanted a super sport, when the bug finally bit last year I initially started looking at cruisers, after taking the MSF course I realized that I really liked going around corners, I got a UJM for my first bike which served me well though kept me wanting for better handling and brakes. sold my first bike in June and got my bandit a week later.

Only things I wished my bandit had that it doesn't are fuel injection, more torque, and a fully adjustable suspension

My first bike was a b-day present. A brand new 1971 Yamaha mini enduro. Been hooked ever since. Here are the rest of the bikes I've had:

Honda Sl100 (2)
Honda CB175
Suzuki RM125
Honda XL350
Kawasaki 500 triple
Kawasaki 900 Z1
Honda CBX
Honda V-65 Magna
Yamaha V-Max

My next bike will either be a Honda VTX or a Suzuki 109. Ride on!!!!

Well, I don't think the decision is "bike or dinnete set", its more like "my choice or the wife's choice to spend the extra money".

I can safely say DH and I don't have that problem, choosing girly items vs manly items. That is child's play.

The real decision is when it goes like this: bike or big screen...bike or big screen...

...........we bought the bike.

................then we bought another bike

...............we still look at big screens

What set it for us is, we already have an "eh" tv that at least works. BUT we had NO motorcycle at all whatsoever. So, let's buy the bike and when the "need be", we'll buy a big screen :D

grampi, I think the choices depend on the kinda woman you're bargaining with. I never was the girly girl kind. I was the son my dad never had lol So, comfy couches, good tools, nice yard, strong trucks, grilled meat and outdoor fun world are what I enjoy.

LOL! I'm married to the original "tina the tool woman". Forget about jewelry or perfume, if you wanna warm my lady's heart, buy her a new power tool!

2009 BMW F650GS (wife's)
2012 Triumph Tiger 800
2018 Yamaha XT250 (wife's)

The problem with my wife is she has no problem whatsoever with me having no motorcycle whatsoever. That's a problem.

Just tell her you see that as the same as no dinette set or living room furniture! ;) I'm sure that'll go over really well.

I cashed in an RSP to buy my bike. I drive around handicapped and old people all day and it hit me one day that I don't want to be like some of those old folks that I drive around.
They never did anything and never went anywhere. So they have no real fond memories.

I decided I didn't want to be like them. When I'm old and sitting in my rocking chair, I'll be able to tell some great stories...about the days when I rode a motorcycle....
