In all honesty I wouldn't mind seeing vehicles equipped with something that'll let the police just kill the engine in the event of a high speed chase. It'd need to have multiple layers of regulations to go through ie, talk back to the police station, who talk to the manufacturer, who look up the code for that specific vehicle etc etc which then gets relayed back to the police, and the power is cut via radio signal.

*I'm really tired right now*

But I think that just banning a bike or car because it can go FAST is stupid. I could do more damage with a f150 doing 60mph then with a bike doing 120... it's just a momentum factor. And I'd be safer if I did it in the truck too. When it's a bike vs car crash the fatalities are rarely in the car.

When it's a truck vs car crash the fatalities are rarely in the truck. So shouldn't we be legislating against trucks? I mean they're obviously weapons of mass mur... destruction. Send in the TROOPS!

If you were doing silly speeds, with the rpms high in the rev range, I don't think I'd like the engine to be shut off, and suddenly gain a "poo poo"-load of engine braking.

Also I can't be bothered to do the maths myself, but its something like a lorry driving at 60mph has the same kinetic energy as a bike at 800mph

Kinetic Energy = 0.5 X Mass X Velocity X Velocity
energy in joules, mass in kilograms, and velocity in metres per second

How about a device that will just engage the clutch? :)

Problem is clutches are mechanical, a device to disengage it, would just be another major point of failure, whereas turning off the ignition is a simple switch

I know it's crazy, but that is what's going on.
That's actually a good point.

When a Hayabusa blows by a parked uniform on I-95, what is the uniform supposed to do? There is no way a cop will catch a bike that can go from 95 to 145 in maybe 4 seconds, and it will only make the guy on the bike be more dangerous.
Easy...I95 should be monitored via video. The police can casually stop by the racer's house later that day with a tow truck.

What is the bike is stolen or the plate isn't visible?

Then at some point the rider will be pulled over for having an obstructed plate when they arent going 130mph.

I think you missed the conversation... Oh... and... everyone around here rides with an "obstrructed" plate.

a 2 ton truck would be very light, most mid size sedans these days are 2 tons or so, a full size truck will easily be 3 tons.
as far as banning such high powered vehicles from the street, I think its stupid, but then again is making such a powerfull vehicle available at such a cheep cost.

just because that happens once in a while doesnt make it not odds. the fact is if your vehicle is bigger than the one you hit, your chances of death (or injury) are much less.

I didnt really think about that, but yeh my sedan weighs 1.7 tons (3400lbs)
