Goldwings come with a center stand...

My bike weighs in at a little over 650lbs, and it's taken me a while to learn how to put it up on the center stand without a lot of effort. I know it can be done easily with the right method, but that doesn't make it any easier to do. With a bike that heavy, it's hard to get over the fear of dropping it by doing something stupid.

That being said, the center stands really come in handy.

A lot of people have trouble with putting heavy bikes on the centre stand because they try to pull the bike back onto it. The proper technique is to put the stand down agains the ground, and then stand on that little piece that juts ouf from it with all your weight. With your weight on that, you don't have to worry about it tipping since it is held up a bit by the stand. If your weight alone isn't enough to pop the bike onto the stand (mine isn't for most bikes) then you pull up (not back) on the rear of the bike, either by the passenger grab handle or some other suitably strong piece.

Well the original poster is looking at cruiser bikes so that doesn't help him

My current bike is an 85 Suzuki Madura 700 (a cruiser). It has a center stand and weighs 550 lbs. dry.

I'm looking at buying an Intruder 800 and really am missing the center stand.

Since this was resurrected, I may as well mention that there are after market stands for a lot of bikes. My Royal Star Venture, even has all the mounts for it stock from the factory, just no stand...

3 of our 4 current bikes did not have a center stand stock - only the '03 Trophy came with one.

My Shadow 750 (admittedly an '84) has a centre stand that is ridiculously easy to get up on. It's a different story with the 700 odd pounds of ST1100 I have, but I can still get it up, as they say. I weigh 130 lbs soaking wet so it is all about using the leverage of the stand to help you.

Oddly, the lightest bike we have (F650GS) is the hardest to get up on its center stand. It has factory-lowered suspension, that probably reduces the leverage somehow.
