It does sounds like its the bike you're more concerned about than you're riding, ultimately leaving you uncertain overall, that's understandable.
I applaude you for getting back up to keep at it. Reading your post, while the situation isn't the same as mine, I could feel the same reservations in your words that I'm experiencing.
From reading Story's post, you can physically handle the bike, which is a lot of the battle right there. Probably some good seat time to build up the confidence a bit, take it at an easy pace between riding and pillion and things will blossom from there. The MSF BRC is a good stepping-off point.
