Never bought a thing off ebay...not my cup of tea.
+1 to MrGompers...found my bike on Craigslist, only about an hour away from my location. The only thing Craigslist did was give me a way to get up with the seller; which is exactly what I was hoping for.
After I found the bike, I did all the phone calls, emails, and setting up of appointments for a test ride, etc. I did not, and will not, buy a bike from a total stranger w/o checking it out in person.

Just to clarify my earlier statement about someone having 100% or 99%+ feedback. If you're going to plunk down thousands of dollars, then it obviously makes sense ot actually go look at somone's feedabck. Check their feedback as well as what actual items they've sold. I do do this even if I'm spending anything over $25-50. If you look actually take the time to reserach their feedback, you can get a good feel for what kind of seller they really are.
And if you find that they've previously sold a large ticket item, hopefully another bike, note that you can email prior buyers and ask them how their deal went. Most people will be happy to share.
There are lots of good deals on ebay - but there are also lots of bad deals too. If you do a little research, actually contact the seller and use some common sense (as in walking away if the deal smells fishy at all) then your chances of getting taken are greatly reduced.

And I want to clarify my earlier post as well...
I didnt say that ebay sales suck.I once bought a truck for 230$ that needed a head.I still sdrive it 45000 miles later.
What i am saying is pay particular attention to details in the ad.Like I almost got burned...Guy gave ad.For Vulcan.Just what i was looking for.
Ad sounded like"2002 vulcan for sale.Has custon forward shift highway pegs, hard bags, custom windshield.tires still have 85 % thread left on them.Looks and drives like new. only 1200 miles"
said enough for me .First :if you plan on selling bike in 1200 miles you don't buy all the custom stuff for it.If you have 85% tires left only it's well over 1200 miles on it.Then friend told me that there is companies or shops if you will that will actualy reprogram any digital odometer or cluster fo it to have ANY milage you tell them to put on. So whenever i will find a bike i'll drive down there, test ride it,check oil and tires.so as wear on footpegs and scratches on tank-anything that will lead to believe that it was ridden more then stated ....
Paranoid me.......
