I love these beginner bike threads. They make me laugh. I got a V-Star 650 for a beginner bike. Rode it a month then got a R1200RT. Funny thing is the 1170cc 110hp BMW is so much easier to handle, inspires confidence and I feel is a great bike to start on and grow with. Shifting isn't NEARLY as forgiving but forces the learning curve. Now granted I'm 6'10" 270lbs and this massive bike fits like a Buell Blast would for most folks, I still think people should just get what they want and be happy. Get that 150hp sport bike for your first bike. Just be aware it can and will kill you if you ride beyond your limits. Ride within them. If you can't control yourself and bite it then society is better off. I encourage people to get what they want. Enjoy it. There are plenty of teeny-boppers on the road driving 300hp+ sports cars and sedans. By some folks accounts they should be in a 63hp '91 Ford Festiva.

On a side note, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside tossing my $0.02 into this thread.
½ of a 03 Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic
All of a 06 BMW R1200RT
