Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Religion is a tough subject. But I will throw out that I don't buy in to any organized religions. Not to say that people of the same belief system shouldn't gather and share...they should. PEOLPE do the most amazingly good things! It the ORGANIZATION that throws me.

We have a hero being returned today to Indiana. and the Westboro Baptist church has said they are coming to protest at the funeral. I am so disgusted with this. I wish there was something I could do!

I think it's a shame that the state uses and glorifys the death of those duped into fighting and killing for our greed and corporate interest. The people protesting, although not the best time or place to do it, are actually trying to prevent the same tragic waste of life from happening to another family.

Jeff Stein recently interviewed the incoming head of the House Intelligence Committee, Sylvestre Reyes, for Congressional Quarterly. He asked Reyes whether al Qaeda was Sunni or Shiite. Reyes answered: "Predominantly - probably Shiite." When Stein asked about Hezbollah Reyes couldn't give an answer.

Do you know these answers? Or other basic questions of geography and history?

If one doesn't know, how can one make an informed decision? How can one honestly expect not to be duped and used?

Ive actually met Reyes many times(through my grandfather), and he came from the city Im in right now... believe me... he has no clue about the workings of arabic society and culture.

Dude, do you know who the Westboro Baptist church people are? They are not protesting out of tragic wastes of life or any such cause. They protest military funerals because they believe this to be more of "God's judgment" on America. That soldiers are being punished because there are homosexuals in America. In their view, soldiers didn't join the military out of a sense of patriotism, but because they are "lazy, incompetent idiots" unable to find work elsewhere.

I'm sure by now that you have heard of the Patriot Guard, and they can provide adequate security. By the way, anyone can go to the church's website and see their upcoming roster of events. Then again, they may avoid placing stuff on their site like they used to.
Being a gay man, and a motorcyclist, it never ceases to get my interest that there is all this outcry over the Westboro Church and its wacky Preacher. Back a few years ago when that church preached its "Gays In Hell" gospel, and that America was being punished by God for tolerating homosexuality, I never heard a peep from anyone in the biker community. Once the church began showing up at solgiers funerals, there was all this outcry (and rightly so).
Are you just against the shameful disturbance at the funerals of fallen solgiers? or are you against the shameful, hate filled rhetoric of the church?

I'm glad that the Westboro Church finally woke people up, about who and what they really are.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I believe that gays and lesbians should be allowed to marry legally and all, I'm just soured on it by a particular friend. I went to high school with a friend who wanted to have a GLBTA in our school. Everyone supported the idea, yes, even here in Colorado Springs, CO, including myself. The principal denied the application, and so my friend brought it up to the ACLU. Well, to put it shortly, we ended up losing all of our clubs except for about 10 that had strictly to do with school. Now she has a case in the Supreme Court about gay marriage and legalization of such. Honestly, I support it, but a lot of people don't. The only reason a lot of people that I know don't support it is because of the radicals like her. Anyway, I just wanted to put in my two cents on that subject. Oh, my friend's name is Sara Thomas, and she brought the ACLU against Palmer High School. I guarantee you've heard of her and the case, but probably don't remember it. Like I said though, her radicalism the only reason a lot of people I know don't support it... Have a great day!

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I flamed you, because I did'nt accuse you of anything, just asked a difficult question. I appreciate your position, and I don't really have a comment on the gay marriage thing. My opinion on the school clubs thing, is that it is the School that banned the clubs, not the student. Why did the School ban the clubs? It sounds like the School was so strongly opposed to providing a gay club meeting place, that they would rather shut down most of the others in order to prevent gay teens from meeting on school grounds (such as what is done for all kinds of other student clubs). Too bad the School chose this route. Thanks, nice chattin'....., later.
