Hangovers are from drinking bottom-shelf liquor (see photo of Sev's fridge for reference). Invest in a quality alcohol like Grey Goose Vodka (~$38.00 for 750ml) and drink a glass of water for every two or three drinks and you can get out of bed and go to work in the morning like nothing happened. Drink a bunch of cheap swill like JD's or SoCo, or mix a bunch of crap together (like liquor and Red Bull), and you'll have to rely on Gatorade and Tylenol just to function.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
HAHAHAHAHAHAH
haha... sigh.
You get a hangover as a result of alcohol replacing water in the bloodstream. As the alcohol is removed from your body you become
dehydrated and begin to suffer the signs of this affliction.
Symptoms of early or mild dehydration include:
* flushed face
* extreme thirst, more than normal or unable to drink
* dry, warm skin
* cannot pass urine or reduced amounts, dark, yellow
* dizziness made worse when you are standing
* weakness
* cramping in the arms and legs
* crying with few or no tears
* sleepy or irritable
* unwell
* headaches
* dry mouth, dry tongue; with thick saliva.
Man, some of those seem really familiar for when you wake up.
So why does Grey Goose not give you a hangover? Because our lovely friend Zootech is consuming water for every drink that he has, adding extra water to his system preventing dehydration.
Additionally, poweraid helps to restore the electrolyte balance in your body which will be messed up due to the diuretic actions of alcohol within your body.
For the record, what I drink is not swill. While I do not feel the need to justify my rye choice to anyone, what I do drink is some of the best stuff you can get without taking on a second job to support a habit. Why don't you see my "swill" on top of the fridge? Because it's in MY fridge so it doesn't get stolen. Rye and gingerale is a great drink and one that I won't fool around with.
Finally, I've never had more then a mild headache upon waking up the morning after, no matter what I drink, or in what quantities, and I do not take anti-hangover precautions (like drinking water between my drinks). I seem to just not get them no matter what I drink or don't drink. My roommates do not seem to enjoy this immunity to the affliction and as such feel the need to consume powerade in between.
As for your high quality grey goose not giving you a hangover. Vodka in general gives a "nicer" or less painful headache as it is a clear spirit and seems to contain fewer congeners which is a toxin more readily associated with darker spirits.
So what am I getting at here? Well, you can pay $37 American a bottle and drink water in between and believe that holds off your headache. I'll continue to drink my $25 Canadian a bottle rye with gingerale and not get a hangover in the morning.
I put away 3/4 of that bottle and was fine Wed morning. Feel free to justify the added expense any way you want.

Rye and water....good for no hangover re:Sevs rant also, no one will take your drink since they taste horrid.
beer, cheap is good. LakePort (24$for 24) if I feel like splurging, Sleemans.
whats the point of drinking if you dont feel a little rough in the AM...its a badge of honour.
plus greasy breakie is the best when your heads bumping a bit and your tummys turnin. Bacon eggs and sausage.

Bacon sandwich (contains plenty of salt)
Pint of milk (liquids, and stops your stomache churning soo much)
something sugary (to get your energy levels back up now)
something fatty (so your energy levels stay up)

+1 to top shelf! I always call a drink by "brand". Vodka had to be Russian - Smirnoff or Stoli. Canadian Club is good with gingerale. Black Velvet is the universal solvent - water, cola, OJ, gingerale, vermouth (for a little Manhattan)..... Also agree about clear spirits - if I drink tequilla it has to be Cuervo Classic - the clear one, not the "regular" that's "golden" the golden comes from oak aging... As for beer it's Heinekin or nothing.
I think I am legaly banned from doing shots in New York State. Oh, the memories I don't have....
Yeah, I love to drink, but since I've been over 35 it is a tough next day (only a few short years...sigh). So, Ihave cut waaaaay back. My hubby won't let up on me for lounging if I have overindulged. He is the type that can muscle through a hangover by just grittng his teeth and going on.
I have a party tomorrow nite with the in-laws. Alcohol will be necessary. I am going to get some of the Poweraide and those happyhour pills and hope for the best. It's going to be crummy weather sunday anyway... A nice "hangover day" with blankets, old cowboy movies.....

Did my own "research" over the weekend
Saturday, I bought some Powerade and got all ready for the party. I drank a beer waiting for hubby to get home and go. I think I had either 5 or 6 beers from 6:15 to about 11:00. There was a tab, so I didn't have to pay, and lost track.... So the total for the night was eiher 6 or 7. That ALOT for me now!!
I was hoping for the buzz like "here, let me dance on this table" but I guess drinking isn't what it used to be! But, alas, I only danced once with my father in law (Night Fever, I think) and helped my sister in law and her kids belt out the Bryan Adam's "Everything I Do".... Did try to talk my 'uncle" into buynig a 2002 Sportster for $4500 - told him to take the MSF and we will ride together in the spring...he's 63 and single....
Got home by about 1:00 am, and already had the headache coming on. I drank about 16 oz of the Powerade, took 2 "tylenol", and one big vitamin. Woke up at about 3:00 and drank a big glass of water. Woke with the dogs at about 6:00 am, to find the back door wide open (BRRRR) and hubby alsleep on the couch (means the dogs had to go out, he left them a loose door, and crashed on the couch). Drank another 16 oz of powerade, one more round of "tylenol" and vitamin. Started drinking coffee...
Didn't feel too bad, just tired, and my head was ok! We went shopping, and I didn't get to eat lunch till about 1:00.
All in all - I just have to figure out how to get from that last beer to bed without getting a headache. Precautionary tylenol? Water up before I go out? Start drinking water right after the last "drink"?
Next weekend - we will try it with alcohol.....
