My ex-girlfriend is a nurse, she works in the ER and used to work on the trauma floor (which is where most people go after the ER). She could tell you motorcycle horror stories to make your stomach turn. She absolutely forbid me to ever have a motorcycle while I was with her. Us breaking up was a pretty crappy time in my life, but at least it meant I could finally get a bike

As blues2cruise said, at least get something that covers your ankle. Bikes landing on bare ankles is bad. Hot exhaust pipes landing on bare ankles (well, skin in general), is also bad. Personally, I have a pair of black Triumph Expeditions that I wear all the time. Super comfy and they look just like regular shoes when I wear jeans (cuz you can't see that they are armored at the ankle and shin).
I'm going to find away around the insurance. Perhaps I can with a student loan? I think my sister did that. Family loan? I'll figure something out.
Good luck with the getting around the insurance if you finance. A student loan would indeed fix the insurance thing, but it'd be tricky to pull off (spoken by someone w/ many years of higher education - and loan navigation - under her belt). It's really out of the scope of this forum, though, so if you want the oh-so-gory details, PM me.

You are a rare breed I have another friend who is a nurse and she hates the fact I got a bike.
That is silly. There are plenty of other things to get injured on. Ive seen some brutal car wreck injuries, bicycle, skateboard, etc...hell walk across the street and crack your head open! People are lame. I get one life, might as well have fun. Ive had people say to me " I cant believe being a nurse you got a bike". Well "poo poo" I am HUMAN! I dont even bother arguing, usually roll my eyes or change the subject!

Why let fear rule your life? I'd rather have a short life that's led the way I want than a long one where I didn't. And besides, approach motorcycles with some intelligence and its danger drops a lot.

Oh I know, I am so preaching to the choir! I just hate when people bug me because I am in the medical field, or being a female for that matter! Some people should just live in a plastic bubble and stfu . Since learning to ride a motorcycle I have had more fun than Ive had my whole life! The feeling of being on the bike is so liberating, and amazing.
