regarding the post about the guy who almost got run off the road....

I'd memorize his licence plate and sue him for all he is worth, that is, after i have him arrested for attempted murder and sacrificed his first born...

side story: buddy of mine said he was riding with a group on highway, him and another guy move into right lane to help hold back cars entering from long onramp to a reasonable speed while rest of group moved in front. A man similar to the one from the story above did not like this and when he got in front of the group proceeded to empty out all the change in his car via his hand and a toss into the lane behind him where the group was riding... fortunately no one was injured... what a waste of money.

simply amazing....

Once a met a very rugged nomad sort who showed me a very interesting tool he carries around with him.

Basically, it's a fairly thick piece of pipe, smashed flat along most of it's length (yeah, you know it's coming) except for a small portion near the end used as the handle. One edge of the pipe has been ground to a blade-like edge, and a small portion near the top has been curled over to create a point facing the same direction as the 'blade', and would be, in theory, used to create punctures.

It fit just-so in his saddle bag so that only the handle stuck out and was easily accessible en-route.

Whether he actually used it or not, I don't know. I certainly didn't doubt that he'd be the sort, but it could have just as easily been for show/intimidation.

Throwing change at a guy like this probably doesn't result in anything good. Whoever that fellow was should be glad he was dicking around with less agressive bikers.

If you drop a handfull of nickels it'll take out a guys headlights.

However, if I was going so slow that i was blocking cages to the point of instigating roadrage and had such a big opinion of myself or such a small opinion of them that I refused to either speed up or pull over.............I would put some real effort into not allowing them to play full contact commuter with me. Even if it meant my nose could not stay so high in the air and my cavalier smugness had to take a short break to avoid my bones taking breaks.

If I succeeded in making a fellow motorist livid to the degree that he was attempting the vehicular version of the brush back pitch on me and I failed to keep out of the strike zone :
A)I would definitely not take either hand from the bars to go fumbling around through my luggage for some prison machete shank-come-fish gaff. I wouldnt let go of the bars even to grab a vulcan minigun or Pamela Anderson at that point.

B) Even if I already had the gaffachete (for want of a better term) well in hand I would not attack a 2 ton car on its passenger side with my hand crafted weapon. Certainly not a 2 ton car that is going faster than I am and whose operator is in better control of his vehicle than I am of bike.

C) If I was so nonplussed with being pushed around that I just couldnt stop myself from righteously taking up my gaffachete and playing Don Quixote to the cage's windmill I would avoid attempting to strike/puncture a tire the way Heidi Fleiss avoids church or politicians avoid the truth.
With my luck that hook would hit the sidewall and instantly rip my homebuilt gaffachete out of my hand slap it down on the road and boomerang it right back at me to chop my fool head off.

Plus big brother would call this a heinous drive-by gangland gaffachete incident and next thing you know it'd be illegal to carry a concealed gaffachete even for cases of self defense.

Oh and to rerail the thread  the biggest idiots on the roads are neither cagers nor bikers. That award belongs to the "large group" bicyclists who behave very much like baitfish in schools.

I think I have survived so long by treating everyone as an idiot, including myself. I consantly think of what may go wrong when I am riding and what the other idiots might do. Anybody who suffers from road rage is absolutly an idiot and anyone who takes up the challange is doubly so. Show them you tail lights.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R
