"If something happens to you on the bike then I'll feel responsible, and if something happens to my bike then I'm going to be pissed and that will wreck our friendship."
I have a crew that I am comforatble with riding my bike for two reasons. Mostly they ride better than I do so my bike is glad of the break and secondly they are all the people I would phone to help if it were broken.
In short, I can trust them.

I've let other riding friends ride my bike and they've let me ride theirs. There's also an understanding ahead of time..if I break it I buy it, and vice versa. I wouldn't let a non-riding friend ride my bike.
If someone can't accept no, then they aren't a friend. A simple "You're asking me to do something I do not want to do" should do it. If it doesn't...time for new friends!

if your friend has the means and moral standpoint that they would fix anything they broke on it, sure. I let my brother in law to be rid my bike a couple times, but he has some money and is the kind of guy that wouldn't even hesitate before putting it on his truck and taking you and it to the garage to get it fixed up right. and he had just let me play with his 4 wheeler.....

I also don't have a spare bike, so if someone wrecks my bike I'd have to wait until the wrecked on got fixed or replaced. And as you mentioned, if someone got hurt on my bike, I would hate the after effect of that happening.shane-o wrote:i have no issue with my buds riding my bike, its insured.
A very small and select group of people could ever ride my bike, but it would never be a buddy, unless they were someone I'd ridden with and knew what they were like on a bike. No one is going to sample riding on my bike.
I hear what your saying, and agree mostly.
Just to clarify, my long time, close mates all ride they are my buds, all experianced all responsible, especailly on each others bikes.
My insurance is total cover, no matter who is at fault, if my bike requires a trip to the shop for repair or service, Im given another bike to ride in its abscence (so I can never be with out 2 wheels under my bum)
If my bike is binned, I have to pay a 400 dollar excess and thats it. The understanding between myself and whom ever I choose to let ride my bike is that if they throw it down the road, they have to pay the 400 excess and all is groovey.
I would never let anyone ride my bike who doesnt hold a full license as my insurance does not cover them and it would be voided in such an event. Anyone pushes me for a ride who doesnt have a license is swiftly told to "puck off".

How to say no, huh? Take a calm look at your buddy, gaze into his eyes, don't look away. Stare until you can feel the tension building and when its at its peak.... smack him upside the head and say "I'm not really into pokemon"
Seriously though, just say you don't feel comfortable with other people having control of your major investments.
