Just imagining the damage you could have done with no saftey equipment amazes me. It would cost thousands of dollars for skin grafts and general hospital stays, and I'd much rather spend $500 for new gear anyday.

are there any stats out there for number of riders in existance vs. number of riders underneath trucks?

seriously, that stuff gave me the chills.
Wow.. Umm.. just a guess, but I'm sure that the riders vs trucks senario doesnt happen often. Not only do you have to be in the wrong situation at the wrong time, but you also have to be near a large truck. My dad used to be a truck driver and his trailer is very light when theres no load in it. It bounces up and down on virtually every crack, so unless theres a big load in the truck, then it would be difficult to crush someones helmet.
You DO realise that car crashes can be just as bad right? Maybe even more brutal in some cases.
Are you serious??? Unless the helmet is some super steel reinforced with kryptonite, a truck will easily crush a helmet! Please tell me you were joking!

I would say...

it depends on the type of truck and the type of trailer you're pulling, plus the weight.

I've seen trailers I can almost pick up... or that weigh enough I could pick them up if they were more compact. I don't think one of these would be capable of crushing a helmet unloaded. It would probably just knock the helmet/head out of the way.

There are also bigger heavier trailers that would most likely roll right over the helmet without even a bump.

All in all - blanket statement = bad.

Are you talking "pull behind the car trailer" Because that I would agree with you, however, truck driver + Load = tractor trailer... If you can almost pick that up, Then "You Da Man" I stand by the blanket statement!

An 18 wheeler trailer even unloaded, going down the road at high way speed will crush a helmet. In my opinion any ways.
Bike against cars, cars will win every time.
cars against 18 wheelie, the wheelie's will win every time.
Last tuesday just a few yards from where I work a truck, 18 wheeler, ran the stop hit a pick-up and killed the pick-up driver. The driver of the truck ran. The driver is from El Paso Tx.

If you think Boston's hot, come down here to DC.

Besides the obvious that people here have mentioned, I got two words for you...

perforated leather.

Been to DC in the middle of August... not all that bad, a bit humid, sure, but not that bad... Now try Colorado, for the last week, granted, like 10% humidity, but about 100 has been the average...

Why stop with only motorcycles?

www.rotten.com

I've seen everything there from helicopter decapitations to weight lifters who crapped out their intestines.

Those pictures sure do make me want to drive a bit safer though.

Some kid on nissanclub flipped a quad without any gear on. Wearing flipflops. 13 staples later (11 in his head, 2 on his foot) he's home from the hospital. Wear your gear.
