Zohw wrote:My Savage (now known as the S40) is a perfect 1st bike. You're 5'4 which means it will fit you much better then it fits me (I'm just under 6 foot). It's a lightweight cruiser, and can be rather nimble. Got some fun torque too. Fast enough to do highway with ease. I maxed my '96 at about 145km (90mph).

I highly recommend it for a first bike.

JB, how's the instruments working for you? I'm too big for my bike, and have a full face helmet. I can't see my speedometer without looking down far enough that I can't see ANYTHING in front of me. Kinda dangerous, so I pretty much go by feel.
Thanks for your help. You are right about the full face helmut. It's hard to see what's going on

When I buy my next new bike, the Vulcan 500 tops my list. If they quit making new ones I'll look for a used one. I stopped at my local Kawi dealer and tried both the 500 and the 900 out for fit and feel. The 500 seemed a better balanced bike than the 900. The 500 also had a lower center of gravity. Consider yourself lucky to have a nice bike!

Congrats on your first ride. I know the thrill of riding it home on the first day. Isn't it a great feeling?

Yep, congratulations! I have the 900 Vulcan and I love it! I wanted the extra CC's as I do a lot of highway miles up here, more so than city. City's not very big

Also, keep up with my hubby and his GoldWing. I found the low center of gravity awesome on this bike compared to the 600 Honda Shadow I had. It was an '01 and really dived in the corners. When I first got the 900, I was a little intimidated by it's size, (I am 5'3" and 118 lbs) but the balance was the one thing that I really was comforted by.

So, enjoy!!
