That study about head impacts shows that ~50% are on the front lower left and right side... right where a full face covers.

I think the whole neck snapping helmet scenario is very similar to the steel toed boots myth. If you drop something heavy enough to bend steel and pinch your toes or cut them off, well you are going to lose you toes anyway without the steel. If you hit your head hard enough, or whip your head hard enough to break your neck, with a helmet, you're probably not going to make it without the helmet either.
