really? that was not the case for me. in my class, i remember doing the turn and struggling to stay in the lines. i kept hearing the instructors yelling "push" but that didn't seem natural or right. i wanted to try and turn into the turn. i knew what i was supposed to do, it just didn't feel right. then we did the swerve and from then on my brain got it better. now it makes total sense to me. but at first it didn't. glad it did for you.shane-o wrote:I dont know why people get hung up on counter steering, you dont need to teach it, its a natural thing to do, and any one who has ridden bicycles has used counter steering. If you need to go left you will input into the bars pressure to turn left, who cares whether it requires you to press the right bar to go right or press the left bar to go right, as long as you go in the direction you need to, who gives a dodo what its called...just do it !!! and call it riding..puck counter steering!!!!

Never in my entire riding career spanning near 20 years, have I ever thought "i need to counter steer to get through this turn"
Whats more, in the first few years of riding in the dirt, I didnt even know what it was let alone think to do it, yet somehow, I managed to get to all the places I wanted to on a motorcycle at all kinds of speeds.
I think teaching counter steering to nubs before they have got out on the roads and had a bit of riding experience, just confuses them and makes them even more hesitant in making decisions on the road, as evidenced by the worry shown by a few of you in this topic.
Thats what I mean about puck counter steering, just get out there and have some fun learning to ride, worry about terminology later on down the track.
IMHO of course;)
