In Canada, you can't wear anything but steel toes in indusrty requireing protective footware. I think they figure that if you drop a couple of tons on your foot, it's smashed anyway, and the steeltoes will at least keep all the toes together and easy to find for re-attachment.

Actually, the other aproved protective footware material is wood..... like in Dutch wooden shoes. The whole shoe/boot must be made of wood for it to pass........ no, I don't get it either..... :roll:

My jacket is some sort of freak combination. It's mesh in the front, armored all over, and the shoulder/upper-back/arms are leather. It's really nice now that the weather is getting hot. A couple months back I was considering buying an all-leather jacket for the cold though. Personally I like leather more because it has some weight to it and contrary to all the previous posts is quite comfortable for me. The best way to go is try on lots of different kinds of jackets, and pick which one is most comfortable. Uncomfortable gear, even if it's the safest, is a real b*tch on long rides.
